328i Massive Coolant Leak Then Shutoff
Hi I bought a 2008 328i and the battery is completely dead and needs replaced. I was able to jumpstart the car and run it off the Alternator. So I was driving it home and noticed a massive coolant leak just pouring out. CEL began flashing then the car shut off. I had it towed to my local shop. I don't think they've had time to really look at it in detail but they said they tried to jump start it and it just cranks. Wont start.
If it cranks then the motor shouldn't be locked up right? Do these cars have an auto shutoff feature if the motor should start overheating? Like a limp mode? Where can I suggest they start? |

Start by reading codes, hopefully they have a BMW specific scanner.
It won't shut itself down, some sensor or the fuel pump probably died.

There is a limp mode, but it doesn't shut off the engine. it just reduces power to save the engine.
most likely, the no-start issue is completely unrelated. |
