Questionable service recommendations

I have a 07 e90 @66K miles which has been really good so far with no out of warranty repairs yet, but that is catching up to me now and dealer has a laundry list of repairs/maintenance to perform. I had been taking it to an indy shop but wanted to get a second opinion on some suggested repairs.

They said to replace all fluids and noted they are dirty/discolored (PS, coolant, brake) but I just had the brake fluid replaced so now I'm concerned they are either not being honest or didn't actually check the fluids and made assumptions.

They said they need to replace the HPFP, which was replaced in 2011 under the recall and the car only has 30K miles since then. So now I'm really skeptical. I know these are prone to failure, but I thought they redesigned it to address this. They want $1300 for this.

The thermostat is bad so planning on having them replace that and water pump.

They want $1800 for front and rear rotors and pads. Sensor is not on. Best I can tell these are the original brakes. For that price I'll just do it myself

The battery is weak and slow to start when it's cold out. They're not sure if it's the battery or the negative battery cable (ibs fault) or both. About 1000 for new cable and battery.

They noted the engine gasket but it is not leaking oil so can wait on that.

Any suggestions on how to proceed? Thanks

Never take an out-of-warranty car to a dealership, except for recalls.
Find a trustworthy, reputable, independent German car specialist.

It would take a couple hours to leisurely DIY a coolant, PS fluid flush and brake service. If the brake sensor isn't tripped you still have meat on the pads but you can plan to do it in the future. Can you not check the battery cable and have Autozone test the battery? I'm not familiar with the DIY of the HPFP but an Indy would be my preference. BTW, ever notice that a BMW dealership always does an inspection whether you ask or not? It is the highest profit margin in their business and not out of goodwill.

In this case they offered me a labor discount on the water pump and thermostat. Over $250 less than both indy shops would do it for. The other repairs look high and I'll get estimates for them but pays to shop around and also get a second opinion on expensive (maybe unnecessary) repairs

Call another Indy. BMW wanted $2500 for a waterpump and thermostat. Quoted $730 from Indy.

We don't know your mechanical aptitude. I do my own work, I'm just average. I watch videos read the manuals. I'd run the hpfp till failure or bad symptoms shows up. be smart about it like flush the brakes while you replace the pads. you need to replace the tranny fluid too, don't believe the lie.

So first off, what is the history of the car? Are you the original owner? Is there a white BMW battery in the car? If the battery is original then it is a good bet it is getting weak. If it is aftermarket, check the manufacturing date stamped into the case. Clear the IBS code and see if it comes back. A bad IBS will show up with other electrical problems.

The fluid recommendations are just based on the dealer has no service records on the car. 66K on PS fluid is fine. BMW has no recommended service interval for power steering fluid.

Who diagnosed the t-stat is bad. What code is it showing? Is the SES light on? There is no reason to replace the water pump just because the t-stat is being replaced.

No on fuel pump, wait until it has an issue.

Brakes are done when the CBS tells you the pads are spent. At 66,000, the brakes are probably original, so leave them alone until the CBS notifies you.
