I switched from e-sys 3.27.1 to e-sys 3.30.1, and i'm getting *much* better error messaging. Turns out I had a CD in the drive, and it won't flash with something in the drive! Here goes nothing...

I ran my oabr cable and BT antenna today. I could not rig something up to get the screen to turn on. I will need to wait until I get my voltage regulator from Ukraine.

After a few false starts, multiple failed flashes, and a few coding errors, I now have a fully functioning ID6 touchscreen NBT Evo with the almost-latest 2018-07 i-step (2018-11 would break the fake-usb-fsc-cert process)

I seem to have blown away BMW Apps and CarPlay. Maybe the ConnectedDrive purchased apps/carplay can't be saved?
I guess I don't really care, since I'm going to change the VIN anyways, but this is useful info for others interested in flashing... if the FSCs don't show up for something the evo came with, then flashing the radio will kill that functionality (you can read out and back up your factory FSCs if they are actually factory FSCs)

In any case, I now have a fully ID6 touchscreen NBT evo, and the little image of the car is a wagon!

Was searching high and low to get a nice 7" LCD HDMI display that would come with a frame, but didn't find any.

Though I came across this, maybe helpful for whoever decides to cut into the dash. It sits lower than those Android/AVIN units, which is better in my opinion.

https://www.otosaigon.com/threads/e9...-10-2.8749857/

Hope it helps.

That was one of the better non idrive dash installs. If I remember correctly there is like a 200% import tax on cars in Vietnam.

That's close to what I'm intending to do for the first install.

Will take pictures as I go.

Got my FSC certs, and many stabs at FA/coding changes later my evo has a new VIN that matches the ATM, still supports Carplay and BMW Apps, and has a functioning touchscreen. Seem to have lost the little image being a wagon though. Too many options to adjust!

Going to make a cable for the ATM in a bit, and hopefully have connected drive by tomorrow.
Then who knows... maybe actually start installing it in the car?!?

Mostly worked on my CIC with Nick, which is now done, making my 2010 ready for sale (thanks!).

Connected my atm to the evo and the zgw.
Checked for errors in ista, and found quite a few, including all of the antennas (no surprise, since none are connected) and also the ethernet link was showing down.
The SIM status, however was 'logged in' or something along those lines... so it is talking to the lte network at least.

double checked my connections and found i'd misread my pinout by one, adjusted the missed ethernet pin, and the ethernet error went away.

nothing different shows up in connected drive, though, and sending a code from the bmw site to the nbt doesn't do anything.

guess i'll try installing it in the car later this week, connect it to the emulator, etc.

i'm hoping i don't have to find yet another ATM from an ID5/6 car, instead of one from an ID4 car...

It turns out the $30 FSC repair kit does not work and ruined my evo.

Progress!

Nick and I have both been hard at it the last week or so... as the updates above show.
Good progress today!
My Evo was flashed last week with F020-2018-07-547 and with the ATM's VIN, but my ATM, running F025-2016-07-005 would not talk to it.
Today I flashed the ATM with F025-2018-07-530. I was worried that the different builds and different series would be a problem, but nope!
As soon as I hooked up the cables and powered up, the "Update BMW Assist" menu item showed up *not* grayed out. It wouldn't update, and GPS position was wrong, but I chalked that up to antennas.

Dragged the whole mess into the trunk of my project car in the garage, hooked up all the things, and bam! News shows up. Weather shows up. I connected the car to my connecteddrive account, and I have service through January 2021.

This weekend I'll replace the rear suspension bits that were bent in the accident, and replace the worn out brakes, and then... start cutting the dash!
I'll take pictures of that bit

Troubling detail: custom retrofit.ro/bmwnbt.com says their adapter will *not* support remote control functions (honk the horn, turn on the ventilator, etc) because they couldn't figure out how to keep the adapter awake/wake it up without draining the whole car battery.
And on top of that they have no interest in trying to resolve it.
On the plus side, free returns within 30 days...
Time to order a carsystems adapter instead, I guess...

My roof ATM is dead. I bought a X3 atm and a new fsc pack. That was an expensive experiment.

I mounted this noctua fan to my amp. It moves a good bit of air in the amp. I am going to wire it to the CD charger pre-wiring once I get a connector.

My new ATM comes tomorrow.

The donor car for my NBT EVO was from the EU.

I want to have the BMW Connectdrive to work.

My understanding is I need to purchase an ATM and rewrite the VIN to match the EVO head unit?

Then I need to have BMW dealer connect the donor VIN to their network, correct?

The used US ATM will already be active. No need to go to the dealer.

That's good news.

I will try to code the ATM to the donor VIN once I locate and purchase one.

Is there a certain version needed or would any ATM be compatible?

My donor appears to have been a G11 (750i xDrive) manufactured on 13Jan2015.

Interesting fact: Looks to have been a BMW Individual build, and lived in Germany - Imperial Blue w/Mocha interior.

Your Evo was not converted correctly. It still is running an English UK version instead of English US.

Hmm...never really thought about it, but I'm guessing that may cause issues with adding the US version ATM?

The coding work was done by BimmerRetrofit. Maybe it is possible they can recode it?

Or

I suppose I could forego asking BimmerRetrofit to re-code it correctly, and do it myself (or possibly someone else)...in which I would need to buy an emulator from the same vendor as you did.
