Yeah it looks like it routes audio into the stock radio via the aux port, similar to the idrive replacement screen they offer.

aclearersky, are you getting any options with it? I'd be interested in the Apple Carplay addon and the idrive controller. Looking forward to seeing your install thread!

No I didn't order any extras at this time. I just wrapped all my trim with vinal so I don't really want to cut it or buy bf new piece of trim with the idrive slot. Gonna see how I like it first before I throw more money at it. Plus I need new rims because of lovely Michigan roads

If you have BMW bluetooth or USB the aux cable often
comes through the Bluetooth SOS unit called the TCU
or Mulf. In order for your AUX line to work it would maybe require
some programming to get it to look at the one from the head unit.
To bad it doesn't Input to the MOST bus for audio as the AUX input
is noted to be a low fi bottleneck.

It looks like their idrive controller replaces the storage cup that is currently there, so it wouldn't affect your wrap.

So I just wanted to post a quick update. I ordered it and shipping took a little less then a week from hong kong. I took everything out of the box and inspected it and to my surprise it came with the idrive controller which i didn't pay for but it didn't come with the guide for cutting the dashboard. So their support said they are getting another shipment later this week of the guides and were going to ship me one as soon as they come in. Even though there was this little hiccup, their support has been great so far in answering all my questions. I get a response typically within a few hours. I recorded the unboxing but the video is a tad blurry in some shots but im still planning on doing a install vid and either a review video or just a review post.

Thanks for the update, looking forward to it.

So I'm assuming it comes with some sort of audio cable that goes to Aux? Or how does it integrate with the existing system?

Based on what comes in the package it looks like you're supposed to run the included aux cable to the arm rest but I haven't removed the factory radio to know for sure. It looks like extremely easy install though compared to previous head unit and remote starts I've done.

On the CCC version it uses the aux connection the back of the radio. I have one.
CIC uses aux cable.

Also install would be easier if there was no cutting required, and fitment was better. about 2 hours.

Did you managed to fit it already? I'm really interested in this product, just not quite sure about cutting the dashboard...

Nope. The package I was sent didn't include a templates to cut the dash so I'm waiting to receive that. Tommy emailed me the PDF of the template but it doesn't have the measurements on it so I'd basically be guessing on how big to make it

I bought the 10.25" Avin unit lucky for me nothing was missing from the package(template) I had it installed at a shop that does a lot of NBT retrofits, we were all amazed at the quality and features Yes you have to cut the dash but once installed and running you'd never know I also added the backup camera works perfect too

Yes i got the idrive controller i did pay for it .No Apple Carplay, I also don't have Logic 7 I'm still learning the ins and outs but it's pretty straight forward. The touch screen is instant where as the idrive controller is a bit slow compared

Would love to see some photos or even video of this installed in a non-iDrive car, and some impressions of how good it actually is.

I plan on it as soon as i get the template. I messaged tommy a few times even for the dimensions so i could have it printed but no response as of yet. Might be a little slow as it the holiday season. but i am getting a little irritated.

I feel like you could probably measure the unit and work out the scale it needs to be.

I think I saw someone mention that the controller is a little laggy, but that might have been with an iDrive model and not their controller. I wouldn't use the touchscreen personally.

Got my installed a few days ago for non idrive and it turn out pretty good. you definitely need the template. the controller is pretty much useless and slow but it look pretty cool. You will need a dremel tool to cut the dashboard. if you have logic 7 make sure you remove the fiber optic cable from the original socket and put into the new socket they provide. the system itself is smooth and fast. the back up camera option is awesome as well.

That's annoying about the controller, as from a few times sitting in the car pretending I think touching the screen would be a pain in the ass for me, and I'm not sure on the legality in the UK either.

So im working on my install video and I've cut my dash with a razor blade. Im thinking ill have to use my dremel to cut through the hard plastic in the dash but im looking for ideas. I don't want to use a cutting wheel cause then those things break they have a tendency to shoot out like a bullet and i don't want to mess up anything else in the car.

Avin

Just a week in update on the Avin unit It does not come with any instructions on how to set it up (install instructions only) If your challenged in the Android world you can get a little nuts but i found as soon as you learn where to set date/ time/ and time zone the set up moves along That is the key. I used my phones wi-fi hot spot to set up my google account(this is key also) Now i'm just using Android Auto on bluetooth for my music, and Waze maps
