Parting ways with my 335i
I've had a 07 e92 335i for the past 6 months. Went FBO, Wrapped, BBS Wheels, M3 suspension, etc etc. Love the car to death, but I think it's time for something newer, and more reliable. Car only had 55k miles and I faced almost every single problem there is for the n54 platform (part of it is because i dont drive my car like a bitch). Thinking about vehicles to purchase here soon. Was either thinking of an M4 or a corvette. Any thoughts on what I should do? Keep the car?

Well, you've already taken care of the issues at this point so no point in selling it that quickly. Enjoy it some more. It's lost most of its value anyway.
I'm kind of in the same boat. I was going to dump my E90 and buy a GT-R but delayed that for a year or so until I see what else is out there considering I've done most of the maintenance required at 70k miles.

Could you elaborate on the problems you're experiencing? Did you have a PPI done before buying it? Looks like you've done some expensive esthetic items but how about mechanicals?

6 months and you've corrected all the common N54 issues? You just got it in tip top condition and you're going to dump it? I get that you might want something newer, but the car should be reliable now that you've fixed everything. If you want the car to feel new pay a detail shop to go through it with a fine-tooth comb. If you have iDrive upgrade it to an AVIN unit, which will take some of the old tech feel out of the cockpit. If you want the fancy gauges and configurable screens on the instrument cluster you're out of luck, but I personally prefer the fixed analog gauges.
It cost a lot to replace a car you've had for six months and poured money into (sunk cost) and hardly driven. I'd keep it. |

What did you replace? So far all I'm seeing is battery.
Was your car in a flood or something that's causing electrical issues? Those are not related to the N54 but E92/E90 car itself. You've mentioned nothing regarding the N54 motor itself. Stop with all the reliability bullshit. If you want something reliable than go get a Prius or Toyota

Damn, only 6 months? I've had mine for almost 11 years and put all of its miles on it.
The N54 is a baby and you gotta maintain it like crazy, but for the most part it can be reliable enough for long trips. I just drove around 1,200 miles these past couple holiday weekends and mine's about to crank 100k miles on the odo. There are many people on here who are FBO and use it as their daily, just like everyone else, and take trips to other states, monuments, state parks, beaches, mountains, and the like. You can do it too. |

clearly you didn't see "Pretty much everything spark plugs, coil packs, HPFP, and water pump should be on the way out." and no it was a clean title. You tell me man it's been in and out of the dealership for this bs electrical problem. |

And those are regular maintenance items every owner goes through. If you're going to complain about changing those then just get a new car with 0 miles.

That being said, it all depends on your goals for the car. You have invested alot in a short time to dump it imo. Bad return on your investment. Why you would buy an 07 and then 6 months later consider an m4 is not logical. As far as reliable it really depends on what you have done. The more you modify in theory the less reliable. That being said I drove my single turbo for basically 12 hours straight in and out of traffic one horrible day in the peak summer and it was perfectly fine. Cheap, fast, reliable, pick 2. Rule for all cars. Last edited by Torgus; 01-11-2019 at 06:40 PM.. |

But it all really depends on your end goals and how much you want to spend. People make the car out to be horribly unreliable, it's not amazing but it is not horrific unless it hits you all at once. |
