N52 exhaust pipe carbon build up

Hi all,

I'm familiar with the N52 being a port injected engine rather than direct which means that carbon buildup on the intake is not an issue as far as I've researched. However what about the exhaust exit tail pipes?

My 325i has quite heavy carbon buildup on the exit pipes, after I clean it it comes back within a week. What are others' experience of this? Could my injectors/coils be on the way out? Spark plugs were changed around 15k miles ago according to service history and I have no engine related error codes.

Air filter was replaced Sept 2016. Could it be worth cleaning the MAF sensor?

I have the same thing on my exhaust tips. Is that not the way it's supposed to be?

I guess generally there's nothing to worry about, just wanted to hear some opinions.

It's not a real problem. Every car will have a little carbon dust on the exhaust tips.

if you had been here longer you would understand.

either way - your question is answered. there's nothing to worry about having black residue on your exhaust tips. this isn't a real problem.
