O-Cha, My front bumper is off at the moment at the bodyshop, do you think I should stop in there and remove the piece to allow for the ram air effect? I have not seen it and dont know how much more air it will allow at speed.

If you were to do it again would you remove the piece?

Considering how far away the filter is, it certainly cant be louder then the "dyno glory" intake (which isnt that loud to begin with). My wife HARDLY noticed it was there.

do you yell at your wife alot?

kidding aside, there is a thread on the other forum about how loud the dyno glory setup is.

i could be wrong, but your definition of loud may be a bit skewed.
o-cha mentioned it was loud, so just looking for some more specific info.

thank

how is the the cai loud ? is it like another member said: Ļsounds like large straw sucking soundĻ.

currently my engine bay is ĻstockĻ, u say the forge DV and UR cai will fit, but tight.

Question: after i install my forge DV, is there enough clearance with the cai
that i can put onto the cai some sort of thin sound / heat insulating tape?
of course, i would do that only if i find the cai noise too loud / annoying.

...cannot wait to see the gains though !

thanks

using the bumper removal DIY, removing fender liners was easy, and i am no car doctor.
No need to remove bumper. Don't even need to jack the car up if you have the tools but it is SOOO much easier if you do.

Jeez all the posts about sound. It's pretty loud, you're going to hear it. Every CAI is like this and theres no way around it. Well without ruining the whole purpose of it which is no restriction.

i should have been more clear about non bumper removal.
i mentioned the (great) bumper removal DIY cause it tells you exactly
where all the fender lining bolts are.

yeah, some of us are concerned about sound. guess u r right, less restriction = more sound.
you said it was pretty loud. kindly do not flame me, but is the sound medium loud, or pretty damn loud

and what does it sound like?
wind going thru a small tube ( i guess that would make sense no?) LOL.

thanks

TEMP DATA:

I stuck the probe down there today. FYI I probes at filter intake temps on both the dual cone filters and the stock airbox.

All 80 degree ambients (about 27 Celsius)

Stock airbox:
30-35 driving (no change during long hard acceleration)
40-50 after stopping

Dual cones:
40-45 cruising
60+ during a pull (No heatsoak just the pump ramping up from the load, actual heatsoak where the coolant is above the target temp it will go up even more)
70+ standing, got as high as 90 CELSIUS when I got stuck by a train before I shut the car off.

UR CAI:
Ambient cruising, I mean literally I drove through a shaded area and watched the temp go from 28 to 22 no joke. It's is actually colder then the stock airbox. Temps stay the same or lower on pulls, which is a big woohoo.

50+ sitting, Unfortunately it is in the engine bay so it's still susceptible to the same temp climb as the stock box and dual cones. However it immediately drop after starting off.

The measurements done on the UR CAI were with the black piece off. I would suggest taking it off.

It's close to dyno glory loud honestly, the induction sound is lower but the blow off is almost as loud. (I thought it would be the opposite.)

Try it and see, if you don't like it sell it.

[I]if it is loud but doesīt sound obnoxious i guess it will be fine IF IT MAKES POWER.[I]
seriously, if the cai gives good power, no way i will sell it.

you say stock box driving is 30 - 35 degrees. lets say average of 32.
you said UR cai is 28 -22 and maybe lower at wot. then lets say 24.

i have heard that for every 1 degree intake temp decrease = 1 hp.
if this is correct, are we talking at least 8 whp increase with UR cai?
... in addition, this would account just for temp decrease, and does not factor in increased air VOLUME.

what is your opinion on probable UR cai whp gain?
thanks

The cold air part is an after thought, Most of the gains are going to come from less restriction. I wont give my opinion I'll give fact next weekend (as close to fact as a dyno can show).

Where did you have the probe? By the filter or did you somehow get it in the filter?

On the filter in between folds. Same with the cones and the airbox.

Shit I just ordered the CAI this morning...Two weeks ago I just installed a catback exhaust and finally got use to the sound of the exhaust...I mean add this CAI, if its like sucking water through a straw noise I can handle that, but I am guessing it will also make the exhaust a little louder too right?? Ocha what do you think?
