I'd be willing to bet that you could do a 3 stage intake manifold and nobody at CARB would be the wiser since it's all factory parts.

Are you talking about how to do the manifold swap and the process?

Then first read this...

And then read this...

I imagine as long as your OBD2 emissions readiness checks are all still a PASS (or if your county/state allows for 1 UNAVAILABLE), you could pull off most mods.

california does visual checks.

if it doesn't look factory or have a carb compliance sticker on it you're gonna fail.

I was nervous about the RPMs maybe not being good for the engine. Then I thought, my 2009 car spent the first 3 years of its life in Germany and was imported to the US in 2012 with 27k miles on it. So it likely already spent many hours doing ~100mph on the autobahn at 3500rpms (with factory gearing) so it should be ok lol
Yeah, fI wouldn't be concerned about engine wear. These cars are tanks!

In my E36 M3 I drove a lot of sustained high rpm driving and with the 1:1 5th it was always humming along at 4k+. Never seemed to ba an issue.

Only 101k. My work situation changed a few months ago so I’m not driving as much, maybe 16k per year now.
