Leaking valve stem seals is the most common cause on N46. They are not very good engines unfortunately.

I've seen a few guys on youtube doing this job on the older 4 cylinders with Valvetronic 1 and everything without removing the head or valves. Similar to how it's done on the N62. Of course you'd want to know for sure if this is the actual issue before hand

It's a pretty big job. Can definitely be done with the head on as E92_William said. The mechanics at my old work used to do them in 8 - 10 hours. Probably best to get it done at a shop. You need all the camshaft timing tools, and crank pin, compressed air tool to pressurize the cylinders so the valves don't fall into the cylinder when you have the valve springs off and also a special valve spring compressor that allows you to do it with the cylinder head still on the engine. Both camshafts have to be removed, and also the eccentric shaft and intermediate levers. While your in there you might as well replace the timing chain as they are notorious for stretching and causing problems even at low mileage. Renew the timing chain guides and tensioner as well.

Might be worth checking your pcv hoses first and making sure they're not blocked. These can also cause oil consumption but it's more likely to be the stem seals

Guys thank you all for your help.

I did change ccv valve and hoses but I can still see loads of smoke. Is there a definitive test to make sure is the valve steam.

The ccv is pretty easy to change without removing manifold only one hose was a nightmare to get out the others are relatively easy.

I think is sensible to take it to a shop... The tooling is actually quite cheap... I am more scared by the timing as I have never done it.

If so any bmw specialist to recommend around London?

I

Defenitely once in there i will doing:

Chain
Chain guide
Chain tensioner

What about :

Valve lift electric motor
Eccentric valve lift
Or anything else.

Thank you so much?

Vanos O-rings?!! hahaha They are on the front of the block, miles away. Looks like the E-sensor seal to me. Not much else up there. Easy to see where the oil is coming from. Pull the cover off the rocker cover. Left side when standing in front of the engine. Just put your hands under the front, and pull it up and to the left. It will pop off easy enough. Then wipe a clean white napkin around the E-sensor seal. If there's oil on the napkin, it's that seal. I think it was 2 8mm or 10mm bolts. Just undo them and put a new seal on. Make sure to be careful when putting the new seal over the E-shaft sensor. Put oil on the seal first, so it will slide easily over the sensor and do it very smooth, gently and slowly. You don't want to cut the new seal. It's actually very easy to replace and very cheap! ...hahaha Vanos valves ... wtf guy. Don't give people advice if you know nothing about what you are talking about. The Vanos valves are on the front of the N46 head, near the bottom of the head. At least google it before lying about it. Anyone else, take a quick look on YouTube. You'll easily find both Vanos valve O-ring replacement and E-shaft sensor seal replacement. First two things I had to do when I got my BMW. Both were leaking like a sieve.
