Ok so I'm in the middle of replacing my rear passenger side axle, wheel bearing, and wheel hub. Got all three off, but after putting in the new wheel bearing and hub I noticed that the wheel hub rotates nice and smoothly but you can also rock the wheel hub.. side to side, up and down and every which way.. I assumed that once you've pressed in the wheel hub into the wheel bearing there would be no play for the hub to move, just rotate…. Is it supposed to move or did I get a defective bearing or install it incorrectly??? ANY HELP WOULD BE GLADLY APPRECIATED.. keep in mind I did not install the axle, axle nut or rotor and brake caliper yet ….thanks in advance (2007 bmw 335xi e90)

I don't believe there is supposed to be any play in the hub/bearing even without the axle installed, they are freaking tight in there, at least mine are but I used the OE *** bearings from FCP Euro.

Might be a silly question but have you pressed the hub in all the way?

Those are 4 point contact bearings, so they need the axial load from the axle being torqued in place in order to be at the proper internal clearance.

Jac yes the hub and bearing was pushed back all the way… and Tambo you are correct.. I just decided to slap it all together anyways.. once I slid the axle in and torqued down the axle nut there was no play at all.. finished up yesterday and she's rolling just fine.. thanks again for the input

Yup, I'm pretty sure I remember there being play when the axles aren't inserted. I've changed both rears and had my axles out multiple times
