If not, then my guess as to why BMW decided to mate the DCT with N55 in the 135i is because I am guessing they only want to mate the DCT with the series topping model in each series.

-335iS is the top of 3-series = DCT
-Z4-35iS is the top of Z4-series= DCT
-135i is the top of 1-series so it also gets DCT.

Just a guess, but it would appear to make sense that way.

I originally thought they were keeping a tuned N54 in the 35iS because I thought the N55 would not be ready to be mated with DCT yet. (Proven wrong with the 2011 135i.) Maybe not; maybe it is really the economies of scale and that they will not be tuning up the N55 quite yet for that reason. I am sure they could tune up the N55 right now and test for reliability if they really wanted to.
I guess the 335is now with the tuned N54 will have more power than the N55. No more 135i vs 335is questions as now they better separate the two top of the line models with a differentiation in power output. Of course, now both have DCT.

Everyone seems to be guessing the N55 with Twin-Twinscroll Turbo would be a S55 engine.

What's worse is I'm in Iraq and bought the car offline so I can't see it at all until mid-April, but I'm paying at time of production. My military salesman told me it was the twin-turbo I was buying, but I've never even met the guy. He could be just telling me that for all I know. Online automobile sales are such a headache!
Depends on what you are going to do with the car. If you are going to mod it, I would say for some time you'll able to get an easier mod than the N55. Besides, you can also other the performance pack - although a JB3 would definitely do a better job and much cheaper.

That will be cool if the kidney grill is black! I am not the biggest fan of chrome.

I will be ordering the 335xi E92 sometime April/May so looks like I will be getting the 2011

I'm guessing the 8 speed is the steptonic/auto trans.

Just because something is less doesn't mean it's inferior. Less weight, less fuel consumption, less mechanical complexity but same power and torque rating. What's wrong with this spec vs the N54, anyone cares to ponder? Nobody here is a BMW engineer or has even test driven the N55, yet that still doesn't stop the skeptics from mouthing off baseless speculations.

+3

Some of the reason that the engine maybe "cheaper" is because they already had a baseline to design and upgrade the engine. Ppl forget that this was the first Turbo for BMW you can't expect it to be perfect. I am sure that the BMW Engineers know what they are doing.

Also most of the ppl that have the N54 engine can't really just sell the car and get the N55, its not really practical. They have to be happy with what they got... I am sure that ppl with the HPFP issues would love to get this new engine.

Though I do agree the "Twin Turbo" sounds cooler

I assume the N55 engine also has direct injection. Therefore, it needs some sort of high pressure fuel pump too.

The HPFP problem associated with the N54s aren't...well...directly related to the N54 engine.

Im pulling out my hair over here! Tying to decide, a N54 or N55 car. Time is running out and I want to see the list prices and some more "real world" reports of the new engine in a 135. Going to the dealer today and see if they have anything new to add.

Does anyone know if the new 335is will have a limited slip diff? I suspect not as it is usually reserved for M-cars but who knows.
