This worked perfect for me, I have a 2008 E93 with a CIC retrofit from bimmerretrofit.com. I followed the instructions, pulled my 1B file (first try waited 30 seconds and no file so tried again and waited a minute and got the file), generated the fsc with the tool downloaded the maps and put on 2 usb sticks then rotated sticks for 3rd and 4th files, put in fsc everything loaded and maps show 2018-1 now up from 2015-1.

Thanks for making this easy diy!

Thumbs up

Got it !!!

The solution :

Retrieve the file generalPersistencyData_DiagnosticSWTController as described in this thread : https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1154524
The fact is that this file generalPersistencyData_DiagnosticSWTController has plenty of "0x01 0x01 0x00 0x1d" fragments. Firsts ones don't have the right VIN but 1234567 VIN instead. So, you need to search for the first fragment which contains the right VIN corresponding to your car and extract it as described in the link. With this valid 1b file, you'll get the right fsc code

FYI : the script (copy_scr.sh) contained in 1b.zip file, attached to this thread , seems to pick up the first fragment which is obviously the wrong one.

One more thing ; i was able to update my map by using 3 usb keys...

Hi thanks for the reply. Yes I was using the glovebox usb, I’m not sure which version of CIC I have. How would I find this out?

I have a 2014 E84 X1, Navi Business ( europe motion 2014), VIN: VY95560.
I formated four usb-disks with fat32, placed copie_scr.sh to each usb-disks, started the car's nav system, put each of usb-disks into the glovebox usb port, waited at least 1 minute, and then checked it on my laptop, but got nothing. I still conldn't even get that hex file.
I didnot have icom equipment, but I try to use k+dcan cable and also try enet cable cause I saw another topic "get 1b file from Exx CIC without ICOM", but all failed. It was really my bad lucky day
Can someone help me to get the motion 2018-1 ( 0x47 0x2D ) and lifetime FSC code or that 1b file? Thanks a lot!

This thread gave me hope that I could finally update the maps in my car.

Tried 5 USB sticks(format each to FAT32) and still no 1b.hex file in the drive from the glovebox USB. Tried different combinations of inserting the USB, starting the car, just have the ignition ON, wait for 30 seconds to 5 minutes. None worked.

Going to try more USB sticks. But I have a sinking feeling that USB port may be bad. I will try to remove the glovebox and see if I can check for the broken wires/ports. Will also try to put one song in a USB and see if I can import it.

I had tried to get the 1b file via USB to ethernet adapter described in another thread with various adapters(all recommended model in that thread) and non worked. No connection/link lights at all.

FYI, 09 E92 with factory CIC and original firmware. Never updated the firmware or the maps.

Do I need to put the map file on a usb stick that has the 1b file? or just on a blank one? ive got the maps downlaoded and got an fsc code, time to try and get it iDrive to pick it up.

Another thing, how do I split the file onto more than 1 usb stick? I've gone into the files and can see them all, but which ones do I put where? and which files need to be on the first usb stick to start the download off?

Once downloaded, unzip/unrar the files. You will get separate folders for each disk/usb.
Then it's upto you how you want to take it to the car. Copy one folder to a usb at a time or copy to 5 usbs and take it all.

Also I downloaded the disc version to see if I could get the date specific fsc codes to run since I am not able to extract the 1b via given method. Is there a way to make them autorun or how to even get them to run? I have 2017 maps in dvds that autorun and ask for fsc code. Tried all date specific codes generated. Each is invalid. Arghhhh.

The glovebox USB port is getting power. Tested it with phone charger and trying to load music with same usbs that didn't work for getting 1b file. Any inputs anyone?

Use the ftp method to get the file to generate the 1b file from.

The script method does not work on all cars.

Will see if I can get the exact same usb to Ethernet adapter. So far I ordered a couple of them with the same chipset but always ended up with slightly different chipset one.

Just move the content of pkgdb directory from all disks to directory pkgdb on the install media. Leave one copy of config.nfm on the root. The whole thing is 24 GB.

I'm currently trying to do this. I'm assuming we have to extract the .RAR files. What program are you guys using to extract them? When I use 7zip, I get asked for a password and then it tells me it can't be extracted.

Hi, just joined the forum after coming across this thread via a Google Search.

I have followed all the instructions to the letter, however the hex file generated is only 1kb! Anyone have an idea why this might be happening? I have a late 2010 E93 with CIC and Pro Nav.

Please ignore the above post, I was being super dumb! The file is indeed 319bytes! Was getting my bytes and KiloBytes confused!
