More v4 track testing (new world record-- no nitrous)
Hi guys,
We have a pretty big update coming out within the next week or so. One of the things in will incorporate is a feature that greatly improves post-shift boost recovery. We took our Stg 3 6MT to the drag strip today to test it out. Power mods: 2007 6MT coupe @ 62,000 miles Stg 3 mods plus PnP methanol kit PROcede v4 Drivetrain mods: Spec clutch/flywheel AR Designs line lock Quaiffe LSD Hoosier drag tries on 17" Kosei wheels We tested the car this past Wednesday and managed to run consistent 123-124mph trap speeds again. Nothing new there. We've been doing that for a while running the Procede Stg 4+ map. The only major problem was getting that power to the ground through the first 2 gears. Even with the Hoosiers, it would spin terribly off the line and again in 2nd gear. And the problem became much worse when I installed the lightened flywheel. So we made some changes: FIRST, we installed a line lock from AR Designs. They are solenoids that install just upstream of your brake calipers that open and close based upon driver input (we wired a toggle switch to the cabin). It allows you to lock the front wheels and do a lurid burn-out. Without the line lock, it was very difficult to keep the car in place during the burn out. With the line lock, burn outs were super easy, allowing me to get the tire rubber up to temp. Not having them up to temp, was the reason I was getting mediocre to poor 60' times (1.8-2.0). SECOND, we make some improvements to the v4 mapping. Specifically, the speed at which boost recovers between shifts. This isn't a "bogfix" as, with v4, there is no bog to fix. The purpose of this new feature was to get boost to spool up as vertical as possible YET still flatline once the boost target is reached. Take this improvement in getting power to the ground quickly and multiply by 3 (3 shifts) and this should result in better acceleration. THIRD, we raised the boost target to 18.5psi between 4500-6000rpm. At the manifold (where boost is read), we are seeing 17-17.5psi which, strangely enough seems to be a sweet spot with the stock turbos assuming minimal backpressure and good charge cooling (FMIC and methanol injection). And we renamed the map "Stage 5". This allowed us to drop the boost target slightly for Stg 4 so that it sits nicely between 3 and 5 in terms of boost level/tune aggression. AT THE TRACK.... The conditions at Sac were pretty good today. It had rained yesterday so the track was nice and clean. Temps were moderate (55-60F). Low humidity. I did 5 runs. There was no tuning done all day. The only thing adjusted was tire pressure and launch RPM and shift speed: (in order) 11.865@125.046 with 1.92 60' 11.835@125.596 with 1.91 60' 11.600@125.415 with 1.77 60' 11.502@125.893 with 1.71 60' 11.546@125.714 with 1.73 60' I was so shocked at how much more grip the tires had after a proper burn out. For the first two runs, launching at 3500rpm bogged the car! So from then onwards, I started launching at 4000rpm with much better results. The tires would hop and spin madly, and then re-grab traction at the top of 1st gear (see video and datalog). So still not close to ideal. But way better than I'm used to. I'm sure with more practice I'll be able to knock another 1/10th off my 60' time and another .1-15s off my ETs. So yes, tuned and prepped properly (and with a realistically good launch) 11.3x ETs are possible without running NOS and with just basic bolt-ons. Who would have thought this would be the case just 1 year ago? Timeslip: Datalog: (you can see the wheelspin for the first 3/4s of 1st gear by looking at the RPM log. It drops at the top of 1st gear as the tires re-gain traction) Video: I'll be releasing this new family of 6MT maps later this week. I think you guys will love them. Next week, I'll be going back to test with a similarly modified 6AT. And when release new 6AT maps short after that. It's going to be an interesting/exciting month Cheers, shiv Last edited by OpenFlash; 03-14-2010 at 12:25 AM.. |

lol.. I still have to work on my launching technique. But at least it gives me some room for improvement for the next testing day.

Shiv nice work. Mid 11's at 125 is Z06 territory. What plugs are you running; any misfires, forge dv's I assume. Great time for a manual transmission. Looks like drag radials and line lock helped a bunch!

for S***'s and Giggles I looked in the last two issues of Motortrend for any car with a similar trap/ET, and found NONE!! Nice work Shiv!! (The closest was the CTS-V at 12.4 and 117.9. Those things are beasts!!! Too bad I can't get over the styling and interior and size and badge and...)
