After reading just about every thread on fitting this setup, I still have some questions I'm hoping someone can help answer.

I bought a square set of wheels (18x9.5 et40) for a very good price. Couldn't pass it up. After some digging around I've found what size tires I need to run and a vague idea of what spacers to run too.

I'm thinking if either using a 5mm (et35) or 7mm (et33) spacer up front. The rear I'm not too sure. 10mm? 5mm? Another thing I'm not too sure on is tires. I've looked around and people seem to run a lot of different tires. Hankook V12s, Nankangs, Good Year, Federals etc. I'm going for a stretch setup (not by choice, I just don't want to rub on my fenders when I hit potholes or bumps on the highway).

Pre LCI xdrive -> 8mm wider in the rear over LCI
Wheels: 18x9.5 ET40 Square
Suspension: Bilstein B8 / Eibach Pro Kit
Tire Size: 235/40/18 Square (unless you think I can run 240s with the same thickness on the sidewall?)

TLDR; What size spacers do you reccommend? What summer/all season tires do you reccommend?

Keep the square set up as 235/40/18. Definitely going to be a stretched look on 9.5 which will be good for your goals.

In terms of your spacer question, the 40 offset would probably work and not rub on suspension components, but to be safe I'd run a 5-8mm spacer in the front (so now 33-35 offset) and a slightly more aggressive one in the rear at 10-15mm (so now 25-30). Or you could do the same 5-8mm spacer in the back as well. Since your pre-lci you have extra room to work with in the rear.

I've always had luck with Hankook Ventus v12 in the past. Great affordable summer tire. I run PS4S now and they run a bit bigger than claimed. But I do love the sidewalk protection it offers and the grip. Can't go wrong with firehawk indy 500s.

I'm running 18x9 et33 255/35-18. I imagine that a 18x9.5 et33 with the same tire would work. There's no rubbing, a slightly wider wheel wouldn't cause issues, I would rub with a 265.

I have to get an alignment still, but right now after a fender roll I will get 15mm spacers for the rear. Front is perfect.

I understood it as he didn't really want to stretch, but thought he had to? 255 on a 9.5" would be hardly noticeable as a stretch (IMO).

Yes true but I thought he was using a 235 width tire. On a 255 it would fit good. I run a 275 on a 9.5 and it looks normal

That's correct, not wanting to stretch. Want the largest tire possible with zero rub at any time

Haven't ordered tires yet, trying to decide what will work best. Don't want to rub when turning or when hitting bumps or potholes on the road

I think the 235 was strictly because that's what he thought the max was.

I run 255 in the rear on 19x9.5 +31 (LCI). I just SLIGHTLY rub on 1 side now and then(with people in the back)

Basically to get where I am on a pre-lci is a 17mm spacer. Call it 15mm without rubbing and 255s can fit front and back and are the same size as stock for x-drive

Not quite the same, but I run 17x9.5 ET35 with 5mm spacer in front to clear the strut. 245/40/17 firestone 500s look a tiny bit stretched, I'd experiment with 255 next set.

No just 275s in the back. Fronts are 235s. Could probably fit a 245 in the front if I wanted but I have an aggressive wheel setup so it's pretty close to the fendee

For tires, go with Michelin PSS. You won't regret it.

Here is my 2 cents:

You can run this configuration, but it will require some work. The front fitment is most challenging. The E9X non-M front wheel arches do not allow a wide wheel set up. Lots of negative camber is typically required to run this set up plus a 7-10mm spacer for inner clearance.

I would recommend running a tire such as the Hankook v12. The sidewall is rounded more and will help your fitment. Michelin's run wide and have a very square sidewall.


Front:
235/40 18 Tire is the min recommended on a 9.5 wheel and required for xDrive
5-10mm spacer; 10mm if running aftermarket coilovers
More Negative Camber if rubbing on the outer fender

Rear:
235/40 18 Tire; could go 265/35 for staggered set up
5mm spacer is recommended for fitment
stock camber should work fine

Rubbing will depend on ride height and camber. At Pro-kit ride height you should be good or very minimal rubbing at full lock or compression

You will need at least et32 for an offset on the from to clear the suspension.
A minimum 8mm spacer, possibly a 10mm depending on what tire you run as some run wider then others.
I run a 9.5 et32 with a 245 tire on the front (LCI) and it just clears.

I aree with both of you. I find staggered tires on square rims to look weird so I'll be doing that 235/40 square. Thinking of using the Toyo Extensa HPII. I have them on my current wheels and I like them. Good in all seasons aside from lots of slush or packed snow. Good tread wear too. The tread width is 9.5" compared to 9.4" with the Ventus V12 so I should be okay.

I ordered some 7mm spacers for the front hopefully that'll be alright, if not I'll exchange them for 8mm.
I think the 10mm would fit well in the rear though, if not, well I'll order more.

I think a square setup is best bet. This is just my opinion though, 235s on a 9.5in wide wheel is going to be too stretched and won't look good. Have you considered a 245? I run 245s on my front with 0 rubbing.

Oh I'm 100% in agreement with you. I hate stretched tires and much prefer a meaty setup. However like I said I got the rims for a complete steal and went through the trouble of getting one repaired so I might as well use them.

Do you have 9.5s up front?

Yeah I feel you, no sense and letting the good deal pass. And when I was sending my reply I wa under the impression I had 9.5 up front. But now that I think about it I have 8.5 in the front and 9.5 in the rear.

Everything's been installed and so far there's not many issues. Granted the issues that I'm having are less than ideal.

Issues: Potential rubbing but not on fender liner, sway bar colliding with lower control arm (I think), needs alignment

Tires used: Toyo Extensa HP II

They stretched very easily and it hardly needed balancing at all. One was perfectly balanced right off the bat! These worked perfectly, nice clean stretch and the sidewall sits just at the lip of the rim. While I'm not typically a fan of the stretched look, it doesn't look bad. Had I gone any wider there's no chance they would have fit in the front.

Front Spacer: 7mm
Rear Spacer: 20mm

Poke isn't super bad all around, a little but not much. It looks pretty good in my opinion. Though I might change up the spacers. The front is just a little too close for my liking (about a credit card worth of clearance to the shock body). I think 8mm would be just enough to clear better and not poke out a whole bunch. As far as the rears, I think 15mm would look a bit better. It'd match the fronts more and of course less poke. I'll have to measure just to be sure. The 20mm or even 18mm would be fine if I just get the 8mm for the fronts.
