F1 possibility of going 2 stroke

https://www.google.com/amp/s/f1i.com...gines.html/amp

Just come across this online. Now to me this sounds exciting! I've also read that Motogp are considering going back to two stroke engines.
I hope it happens as two strokes are awesome and these V6 engines in the F1 cars are just shite. I do quite like the 4 stroke motogp engines but the 2 strokes were proper animals that took no prisoners.
When I was younger I raced motocross and ive never been much of a fan since they went 4 stroke, although even in this sport the two stroke seems to be having a bit of a revival.
Come on F1 & Motogp, bring back the strokers!!!!

Well obviously theres no F1 or Motogo fans on here.
Each to their own I suppose. Just thought it might have started a bit of a discussion.

I enjoy f1 (just don't have time), I have minimal familiarity we 2 stroke (outside of my string trimmer). Is it just a higher hp/liter? Also don't manufactures use things like f1 to test/prove tech for production cars?

That would be awesome! But I don't think it'll happen in F1, because passenger cars won't have them again I think; emissions are just too bad. That said, I'd be very surprised if large manufacturers were ignoring 2 strokes, especially as range extenders. Current materials and mfg will make for very efficient 2 strokes, but that'll still be less efficient than the equivalent 4 stroke.

Two strokes have always been more efficient than four strokes! You get a power stroke every time the piston moves down the barrel as opposed to every other time with a four stroke. Hence why two strokes can produce so much more power than a four stroke of the same capacity - remember the 500cc V4 two strokes that motogp used to use at the end of the 90's. These were knocking on the door of 200bhp and that's over 20 years ago. The modern 1000cc four stroke V4 and indeed inline 4 motogp engines produce somewhere around 280bhp and thats bang up to date technology! So twice the capacity of the old two strokes but no where near twice the power.

That's not efficiency! That's specific power.

Due to the layout of a 2 stroke, the power stroke is cut short by the exhaust port opening, and you fart nearly half the energy out of the exhaust in a delicious-smelling haze. Effective at producing power, but not efficient.

Maybe if you ran some sort of thermal energy recovery on the exhaust side, you could get the efficiency up... Not sure how a turbo would work on a 2 stroke - that's beyond me.
