I'm an internal IT support tech... I've worked for the same company for 12 years nearly. We're a financial services company doing things like shareholder registration, fund administration, pension fund administration, etc etc. We recently got bought by an Aussie company just over a year ago.

Started off on the Service Desk. If you work for the company & have a problem with your PC, I'd be the first person to speak to.

After a few months, I moved onto desktop support... so if the service desk guys couldn't fix it, I'd be the one who'd come to your desk and do a more in-depth investigation to fix your problem... or doing desk moves, new PC roll outs, etc.

After 8 years, I moved onto server & application support. We don't deal with users directly so much anymore... which is nice as some people can drive you insane. I know not everyone is literate with computers, but some people were so ridiculous it would drive you to drink. I'm now responsible for making sure all the servers are up & running, and making sure the applications that run on said servers are working properly.

Most of the stuff we deal with is really old and underspec'd, but people expect it to work like the latest and greatest. I often feel like the IT equivalent of a mechanic who's been given a 40 year old Lada and been tasked with making it as good as a Bugatti Chiron.

This seems like an ideal thread in which to introduce myself to the forum.
Firstly I've not been an active forum user in a few years, having once been very active on the mig welding forum, if anyone else here happens to be on the same forum I'm a member there under the same username (my name).
Apologies in advance if I commit any forum misdeeds.

I'm a garage owner by day and mechanic in between answering the phone. We specialise in auto electrical work but do virtually everything else as well.
I've recently bought an E91 LCI which will be my first real 'keeper' bmw having had a few short term cars prior.

Already done power folding mirrors retrofit and retrimmed the wood veneer in black Alcantara. As well as a full set of timing chains and most recently the pivoted towbar.
I'm absolutely made up with the car and the spec is 1 in 2000, featuring panoramic roof, comfort access, adaptive xenons, memory electric seats, m sport, cic pro nav and numerous other items. My former (and still much loved) daily driver was a Vectra B CDX 2.6 with a 3.2 engine fitted. This was my daily car until I took it off the road nearly 3 years ago to do a full restoration, which is on going.

My GF has a 2010 E87 116i which I've also done a few retrofits on such as crusie control added, door handle lights and the Bluetooth enabled head unit with 6fl, and a timing chain kit, amongst other things.

I'm probably not going to check in daily but if anyone wants advice feel free to PM me. I've done quite a bit of work across all marques and will help where I can.

Regards
