Am I getting screwed by Motorworks?
I have a 07 335i, bone stock with 57000 miles. I started having issues with turbos where if I take it over 3500 rpm, it shudders, and goes into limp mode. This is what's been happening.
* Bring my car in. They run some tests, and recommend injector cleaning. Cost me $200 * Issue is not resolved. I bring it in, and they say, let's reprogram your car. $300. * Issue is not resolved. I bring it in, and they're like it's probably the turbos or the actuators. And tells me I'm looking at $3000 repair. * I find out about SIB and the extended warranty to 8 years 82k miles on turbo/wategate. * I go back and forth with Motorworks for days until the SA tells me he'd contact BMW NA for assistance regarding the SIB. * Today, he calls and says, based on the tests/programming they ran, it's probably the vacuum tubes leading into the turbos. The next step is to tear down the engine, and it would cost me $600 to find out. If it's the SIB related issue, BMW NA will pick up the $600 tab. If it's tubes or anything else, I'm paying out of my pocket. Am I getting fucked by Ted Becker of Motorworks? Seems like a lot of people on this message board are getting their stuff replaced or repaired for free. P.S. A huge shoutout to VS Motorsport. I contacted those guys to inquire about my issue, and instead of trying to make money off of me, they really tried to help me, showed me the SIB, etc. Respect. |

idk if you're getting screwed intentionally. in the past i found that most places are just guessing if the diags don't tell them exactly what to do. they might be trying to cover up the fact that they're guessing at this point. that's really just my opinion because i have no facts supporting such accusations.
i hope you get it sorted and potentially get something back.

You should invest in a BT cable so you can see what going on. Then read what errors your getting and search/post here. Until then you won't know if they're jerking you around or incompetent. Or you could always go to vs and they can read/printout codes for you.

When you say shutters makes me believe there's some sort of misfire. Have you gotten new spark plugs, coil packs or injectors

I had a bad service experience at Motorwerks when my car only had 3000 miles on it. I have been told by multiple advisors there that if you have a CEL or an engine performance complaint, that I should be prepared to spend lots of money on many return visits. There are a couple good techs there, but they are run ragged trying to keep up with the shit that the rest of the techs there couldn't fix.
They did recently drop a 3 series off a lift there. After spending $20k there over about 7 years for my cars, I finally got fed up and haven't spent a dime there for the last 2-3 years. Let's get a little more info, does the CEL flash when it stumbles? Any other warning lights on? How many miles on the car? Nick |

if you are out of warranty you should not be bringing your car to any dealer, especially motorwerks

It was vacuum tubes that fed the actuators that were pretty much melted. They replaced two, and charged me $540 including previous "reprogramming" or whatever else. Yeah, I'm done with Motorwerks. They had my car for 2 and a half weeks, and a whole lotta headache. |

Holy shit. If I ever need to go to the dealer I go to Jacobs in Naperville and talk to Ryan burton. He's fair as fair can be.

I have never received good service from Ted Becker. He won't even return emails, but forwards questions to the reservation desk. Once I am out of warranty, I'll be shopping elsewhere for service.
MW sales, on the other hand, have always been great. |

The problem is with the dealers, is they charge a lot to go thru the process to determine the issue, if they are not bright, and dont know the older issues SIB's and so forth, they play a guessing game at the customers expense. Labor is not cheap, and to run a diagnosis by the book, charge accordingly based on the BMW service for troubleshooting a code. Glad to hear you are okay though. |

agreed. i bought my car there in 2006 and yeah the sales dept was very friendly and helped me when i needed it. the service dept on the other hand is a different story. The SA's were genuinely not helpful. They couldn't care less about what my issues were. Some of the techs were great, but hard to track down every time.

Yeah, finding a good dealer seems to be harder then it should be a lot of the time.
And happy that this WASN'T Motorwerks in the detroit area, they're one of the good places when it comes to our cars. |
