I plug into my glove box, turn on car and nothing, can someone please help the only other thing I can think of is to get a 32gb usb to have Windows format as FAT32 instead of third party software (I used a 4GB usb formatted to FAT32 by Windows to pull 1b.hex but after downloading maps realized that was to small)
Don't use the same USB drive without erasing the original 1b files and scripts from it!!

That will cause the unit to try to execute the script each time the USB is found and never get to the updates!

For best results reformat the drive as Fat32, load the update files to it again then insert.

Also isn't your 1b file too large???

I tried previously without the 1b and scripts files to no avail but I thought I saw in Chesters Youtube video above that he still had them in there so thats why I tried, I'll try reformatting and uploading again and let you know

My 1b file is 319bytes I think my Windows 11 just defaults to showing 1kb if the file is smaller

Hi everyone, just picked up an 09 335i and cannot get FSC code to generate, always get file corrupted error. The 1b file I pulled is 319 bytes but is not being accepted by the generator app. The iDrive unit is updated and should be able to accept map updates via usb (checkmark/i symbol on nav). I read about repairing corrupted 1b files using hex editors but I am not sure. I used the app last year to generate a lifetime code on my 2011 so it must be an issue with this car.

Retrofit?

The script does not work for retrofits.

Not a retrofit, car is an 09 with CIC but was updated by dealer in 2011 so it should be able to take USB updates. The 1b file I get when viewing in hex is pretty garbled.

Build date was 09/08 so one of the first CIC E90s. Looks like the script doesnt work well on earlier cars.

SOLVED. I was using FSC generator v1.01, I downloaded v1.91 and it prompted me to repair my 1b file, it was able to and generated a lifetime FSC code. Updating to 2022 NA maps now.

One thing that is bugging me is why without the fsc code the mape update wasnt recognised when I plugged in the usb. I was never asked for the code. Surely the ethernet cable wont make adifference to that.??

Would this work on an 02/09 LCI E90? I don't have the tick / I in the nav. Would I still be able to update with USB or would I have to use the DVD (I only have the 1 disc slot on the professional system)

Thank you, would I have to use a DVD update, or just simply I am stuck with what I have?

You would need DVD, BUT, firmware is so old, it's likely update would fail without firmware update, so DVD version likely useless.

Thank you. That's a shame, but probably not worth the cost of doing the firmware at this point. Worth knowing though.

Well, your entire car is running 13-year-old firmware...I would expect programming car would provide more benefits than just map update...

True, I have messaged my local independent BMW garage to enquire and if the price is right then maybe worth a look.

It's worth a try.

USB updates work with AU cars without the Tick. It may be the same for UK cars.

My 09/2009 E90 LCI has never had a tick on the Nav, and I've updated the maps 3 times using USB.

Here's my experience (I had a problem with the generic/incorrect VIN of "1234567" in the 1b.hex file, but used a workaround instead) https://www.e90post.com/forums/showp...&postcount=306

2023-1 is now available but the XML file doesn't yet include this version. But IIRC correctly, it is easily added to the XML lookup file?

Found it on the other thread
