DSC unit failure @ 60k miles...
Anyone else had their DSC unit fail (mine's a Dec 05/55 320d E91 SE) at a cost of £1712?? Fortunately I had an RAC extended warranty... and I'm still waiting for them to pay up after two weeks (Dick Lovett wouldn't release the car without payment, the warranty co. wouldn't stump up first...).

Sure - one DSC hydraulic unit @ £1239.13 pus £249.60 for labour, plus VAT (it breaks down labour into programme/encode control unit, initialise s/roof and power windows, and set compressor inlet).
The service receptionist knew what it was straight away when I described which lights were on the dash (yellow brake warning light and dsc light iirc)... so it may not be uncommon.

Yes mine failed and the dealer confirmed it was very common on 05 vehicles. They replaced ECU for free under warranty. Heard of lots of people having same problem and dealers negotiating down to maybe £100 or so.

Yep I have seen quite a few complete DSC unit failures (hydro pump), the cost you paid is about right. I paid £1500 after soem goodwill discount.
The Swindon BMW actually said they keep this part in stock, as they have changed so many! |

Weirdly the service indicator dropped from 12000 to 5000 miles after the work was done... find out tomorrow why. I'm guessing they can't just 're-set' this to 12k as it's done prognosively (if that's even a word)?

Yep - just got my £1712 back. RAC warranty was £299 well spent then. Turns out the front pads have 4-5k miles left in them, which is why the service indicator came on. £100+VAT/hr for labour though? No thanks, I'll fit them myself...

Remember to get a new wear sensor as well as you will need to replace and fit that, and then get an independent to reset the brake service indicator to 100% otherwise the car will show a red "service now" icon. Also make sure that the piston seal on the caliper is still intact and in good working order. When was the last brake fluid change done on your car? If it's around two years ago, you'll need to do that too. Castrol Super Response Dot 4 is around £10 per litre from Opie Oils - you'll need three bottles.

Thanks - I'll make sure I get those done too. Dick Lovett are happy to re-set the system for me once I've done the work, which is nice!

I had my Hydraulic unit replaced by BMW at a cost of £1660.34. My car was four months out of warranty and had 54k on the clock at the time. I hope the new unit is more durable than the first one.

Use RAC, I've heard a few people have issues with warrantydirect. Sort of a case of get what you pay for
