One-touch navigation button?

Hey guys...is there a way to get to the navigation screen by a touch of a button...it's annoying for me to have to go to navigation, and then scroll down to "map facing direction" to get to the navi screen...am I overlooking an easier way of getting there?

If you have voice recognition, you just say "Map"...
Do you have iDrive with favourite buttons? They can be assigned to, for instance, a specific destination in Navigation

Thanks...I know about the voice recognition, but I'm talking about a button. I have fav buttons, but I can't seem to assign the navi on it...I don't want a specific destination...I simply want the navigation with a touch of a button...I can't believe this function doesn't exist.

No, there isn't. Welcome to the suck. I can't even switch between SAT/CD/FM without going through idrive menus. But I'd guess that at least 90 out of my 1210 posts right now are idrive sucks rants. So I'll stop now at 91.

You actually can switch between SAT/CD/FM by the touch of a button...you can assign one of the steering wheel buttons or press the mode button on the radio...it switches between SAT/CD/FM. I'm not sure what you mean by "without going through idrive menus"

All E90 have multifunction buttons on the steering wheel, as Tommy420 says, if you ordered it.

I do have the button on the steering wheel, but i'm pretty sure i've never seen an option in that menu to set it to switch between radio/sat/cd

You can set it in the idrive menu. Can't remember it off hand, but you can assign each of the two steering wheel buttons (star or diamond) to different functions...

For good measure: hahaha

Hhahahahahahaa! I've never been RTFM'd before. I actually downloaded the manual off of e90post before I ordered the car. I'd read it cover to cover twice before I ever got the keys! Right now the diamond is set to bluetooth and the star is set to Mute. But if you guys are SO sure that the radio option is one of them, i'll go look later.

I've got my diamond-button set to switch between CD, FM, AM, Aux.
Star-button is set to Phone Book.

I actually had this setting before as well...but what I do now is I have my presets to the following settings:

1 and 2 are set to satellite channels (howard stern being one of them!)

3 and 4 ad set to FM stations

5 is set to the auxillary setting (ipod)

6 is set to my g/f's cell quick dial

Can't you just press and hold the iDrive knob to the right to get to navigation menu? I have been doing this the last few weeks, and it works well. Same goes for the other main menu options (left for Climate, down for Entertainment, and up for Communication). Just hold the knob in the respective position for a few seconds and the menu will come up.

Hey Bobby, obviously I understand what you're saying, but when you do that, it takes you to the navigation menu system, where you still have to click the idrive down twice to highlight "direction of travel" to get to the actual map on your screen. My question was whether there was a way to get to the actual map by pressing down on one button. I wasn't able to program it in my fav buttons.

I keep the map facing direction of travel on the right side of iDrive. Its not the bigger map but that would solve the problem for the OP. No need to jump to navigation to view that map - it will always be there.

Try it again. Pressing the controller to the right and holding for 2 seconds takes you to the last Nav screen. If you had the map displayed last time (and usually, that's what you have), then it pulls up the map. No need to go down and highlight "direction of travel" or whatever.

That actually worked...and makes my navigation experience much better. Appreciate the tip!
