You might be right. It could be something else. But the robots.txt file here looks like it could use a bit of an update. The showthread.php page is not listed, so it's open, to normal search indexing, but now all these ai bots.

This article shows how to update the file and block a bunch of the ai bots out of the entire site,

Jason - Mark - apptest

Looks like massive traffic is substantially slowing Bimmerpost down since two days.

DDOS attack or a swarm of AI bots infesting the site ?

Well, that sure was a long "We'll be back in about 10 minutes". So far so good, so maybe it's fixed?

I don't see Bimmerpost on Google Play Store anymore. It's on the App Store, however.

Seems way better now. What was the source of the issue?

Weird that there is absolutely zero information about the issue on the front page or on the official x/twitter account...

It's annoying that we have to protect sites now against scraping bots...

The last time that I saw an application running as slow as BP has been the last few days, it was running from a 3.5 inch floppy disc!

More like loading a program from a cassette.

Glad to have it running like normal again. Hope it stays this way.

Let me politely disagree: even 5.25 inch floppy disc applications ran pretty smoothly being accordingly simple. Running on-premises eliminates "no response" delays by definition. Even severely fragmented small disc isn't hopelessly slow as there aren't many fragments anyway (large might be).

This is how a lot of work can be done in "10 minutes". A girl on the car forum promised to return soon with pictures. Years passed! Not yet. Who would have thought shaving legs could be so difficult? Just someone who did it, perhaps.

It was a double entendre, playing on LJ's "hot guy with erectile dysfunction" analogy for BP's recent behavior by saying that it was running as slow as a 3.5 inch floppy disc.....

The patience we used to have in the 80s was commendable. Countless hours (and no smartphones back then to kill the wait). The equivalent nowadays: watching a big OS update download and install + device reboot, like watching paint dry.

Datassette: "On the PAL version of the C64, the time granularity is 1.014 μs (for NTSC 0.978 μs). Since each bit uses 3284 clock cycles this means 3284 * 1.014 μs = 3330 μs/bit or a 300 bit/s data rate."

Are we still comparing 3.5 inches to 5 and a quarter inches of flopping di....scs?

Give the lady an iomega zip drive and call it a days guys, satisfies at least 20mb cache of fast load...and 512mb of read and write fun!

Ehhhh, on second thought, let's just get back to celebrating bp is back up, ed or not.

Site very slow. Log in takes several minutes. Opening a vehicle specific forum takes several minutes. Posting a reply takes several minutes.

The slowness has rendered the site unusable.

Added: And of course this reply posted almost immediately.
