When did you last have your bonnet up?

Check your Bonnet safety catch......

Went to open today to top up oil, was showing half way down on computer.
Must have been around January last time it was up.
Anyway the safety catch was seized up.
Took a bit of fiddling and then it finally moved.
WD40 and some more moving finally sorted it.
Must have been the bad winter - salt etc.

Serviceable item! Needs greasing etc at service time but most don't bother

I went round and greased all the hinges, handles, catches etc last week. Back door handles were sticking and the hinges creaking with it being a bit warmer.

Tell me about it. I've got white grease all over the slam panel on my car. Seems they decided that the catches weren't enough

I had the same the other day and it is only a few weeks since I last had the bonnet up. I am guessing the recent wet weather hasn't helped.

As for being lubricated at service, these days with service intervals at almost 12 months, it's not enough.

I can always get my bonnet open but in the winter it won't close and latch!

It appears the wonderful white grease BMW use stiffens up when it's cold and the latches won't move fast enough to lock the bonnet down.

Not sure how to cure this other than complete stripdown of the latches and lub with something less viscous. Any ideas?

Lithium grease, just flush with WD40 and allow to dry.
Lube with Aquaslip of any cheap marine waterproof crap

I use White Lithium spray and havent had a problem with the catches ?

Thanks for the suggestion.

I've got some waterproof boat trailer grease, I'll try that!
