Continental vs. Michelin
I've been rolling on Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+ on my '07 335 with 18" stock wheels...previous set was Michelin, as well. Am debating what to replace them with - another Michelin or the slightly less expensive Continental Extreme Contact DWS 06 Plus. I am looking for tire tread/wear longevity for a car that is used in normal driving (plus some spirited mountain runs here and there). I don't want to replace my tires every 30K miles....
Any thoughts from folks who have tried both are appreciated.

I have had both. I hated the DWS. Never again.
On a side note, I get about 40k miles out of a set of A/S 3's. |

I haven't tried DWS6, but I wouldn't hesitate using them. I really like the AS3+ and would stick with them if feasible cost-wise. I never had success getting the advertised mileage from tires and I'm not sliding the car every corner and it's aligned.
Another "Michelin" option is BF Goodrich Comp 2 AS. While on the subject, avoid Pirellis if you don't want to change tires often. The P Zero AS+ are great tires, but you'd only get about 30-40% of the advertised mileage on them from my experience. |

Believe DWS 06 are being phased out. I am in market for tires at present time looking at Michelin's as 3 seasons, I have dedicated rims and tires for winter.

I love my Michelin PS4S' and understand the cost of the tires plus alignment may be difficult to swallow. But, what other component has so much input to the quality and pleasure you get from driving your car? I do not cheap out on tires and maintenance because I see it as an investment in my car and my mental wellbeing. I looked at tirerack.com and you can buy Kumho's under $600, Hankook for $725, Pirelli for $700, Goodyear Eagle for $800. or Michelin $825. Enter your vehicle and it will give you a range of tires to fit your budget.

They’re both good tires and you’ll probably be happy with either. If conti is phasing out the dws06, look for a deal on tire rack. I got my as3+ almost 50% off when the as4 came out.
The continentals ride slightly better and are better in snow but they have a bit of a growl noise. Michelin’s are quieter but the ride is noticeably firmer. Both have great wet and dry traction. |

What was your gripe about the DWS?

On my e39 528i I was able to get 55,000 miles on my DWS06s. I had DWS06s also on my e90 335i, pulled them off around 25,000 miles and they had at least half the tread left. So 50k miles on these are not unexpected if you rotate. I also really liked them and thought they provided a good balance performance and all season ability. They did decent enough the two times I drove the e39 to the snow.

Thanks for all the feedback. I ended up putting the Continentals on my rears...front Michelins still have good amount of tread left. The OCD side of me is not happy, but not enough to throw away two tires that are still in good shape. The Contis have very nice grip, not any more noticeable road noise over the old Michelin rears.

I have the new DWS06 Plus and I love them. I only have around 2k miles on them but it is a welcome upgrade from my old Toyo Extensa HP crap tires. They are quiet and do great in the rain. The handling is pretty good for an all season tire too. I have even noticed my braking performance is better as well. I had some ContiPro Contact years back on my E39 and loved them, they handling in the bends just wasnt the best (not what they are for anyways). Im a Continental user for the time being. If I can get 50k from them I will be thrilled.

Continental ExtremeContact DWS 06 Plus
What We Liked: It's very nice on the road and has strong traction in the dry and wet. What We'd Improve: The steering feels a little artificial. Conclusion: It's everything we want from a tire in the ExtremeContact DWS lineage. Goodyear Eagle Exhilarate What We Liked: Still leads the category in the wet and delivers a strong performance everywhere else, too. What We'd Improve: The ride is a little stiff over imperfections of all sizes. Conclusion: This is an option that shouldn't be overlooked. Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 What We Liked: It does everything at a high level. What We'd Improve: Some additional on-road refinement would go a long way. Conclusion: A true all-season performer. Pirelli P Zero All Season Plus What We Liked: Manages to balance a satisfying experience on the road and genuinely impressive athleticism on the track. What We'd Improve: The wet traction is a step behind in this group. Conclusion: It's very good all around. https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests...y.jsp?ttid=266 |

Don't get the DWS, people only talk about them because that is the OE recommendation. Run-flats are dog-shit for comfort and performance.
Continental ExtremeContact Sports or the Michelin PS4S. The Conti's are about 8/10th the performance of the Michelins, with considerable savings in $ cost. I only run Michelins, but that is just my preference. Tires are the one thing you should never, ever skimp on with a car. Especially a performance car.

They are heavy and loud though. Actually it was weird reading some of the feedback in here. Some of y'all had the same exact experiences as me while other had the opposite.
I personally found the conti's to be inferior to the Michelins, they seemed heavier and less grippy IMO. But again, seems like others had a completely diff exp

Slightly off topic, I recently had to purchase new tires for the daily driver SUV. I am a Michelin snob. Shop convinced me the Continentals are as good and were a little less expensive. 20,000 miles later I am still happy with them.
It's strange, when I take it in for rotation/balance/alignment the techs always say "Oh, you have the Continentals". I don't know if that means I spend more than the average customer, they are superior tires, or both.
