Exclamation SOLVED: M3 Mirror Swap Issues

So this is a strange one...

My 07 e92 came equipped with power folding/auto dim (3-pin) mirrors. I recently snagged a set of used e92 M3 power folding/auto dim (also 3-pin) mirrors on the forum.

After installing them (which is super easy), I noticed an issue. They fold and unfold just fine. But when the selector switch is set to the LH (driver in my case) nothing happens. When the selector is set to the RH (passenger) both mirrors operate.

This is where it gets interesting... while both mirrors move with the selector switch to the RH, the RH (passenger) mirror operates as expected (ie. UP = UP). While the LH (driver) mirror, UP = LEFT, DOWN = RIGHT, LEFT = DOWN, RIGHT = UP.

I'm told from the seller of the M3 mirrors that they didn't come from the same vehicle (though that likely doesn't matter).

Has anyone else experienced something like this when swapping to M3 mirrors? Do you think this could be a coding issue? Highly unlikely this was an installation error, a 5 year old could do this blindfolded.

Simple to just unpin the wires in the mirror harness for the down/up/right/left issue.

I don't disagree with the suggestion, but I'd like to determine the true root cause before I "fix" only half of the issue.

So far, unhooking the battery for about 30min and hoping for something to reset was unsuccessful.

Minor update for anyone who may be following...

1. As far as I can tell, the wiring is identical between my original mirrors and these M3 mirrors.

2. I tried swapping the motor from my original mirror into the M3 mirror. I exhibited the same symptoms. So I swapped them back and tested my original mirror. It worked exactly as it should, so there is something up with the M3 mirror.

3. The battery has been disconnected for the past year while I slowly installed some other mods. Nothing appears to have "reset" or cleared itself.

4. Browsing for others having similar problems, I did see a post about someone retrofitting a RHD mirror into a LHD chassis and the left/driver mirror was doing the same thing mine does. This leads me to think that its possible my LH mirror came from a RHD car, and my RH mirror was from a LHD car (since it works as expected). That doesn't make sense, but I'm glad that I'm not the only one with this specific issue.

More information for anyone who may care.

The M3 mirrors have stickers with F0149105U668B (LH) and F0149104U668B (RH). These don't fit per the usual BMW P/N designations that I'm familiar with, but I did notice some stampings on the inside that might lead somewhere.

My OE LHD mirrors are stamped LLL (LH) and LLR (RH).
These M3 mirrors are stamped RLL (LH) and LLR (RH).

My assumption is that these translate to:

LLL = LHD / something / LEFT
RLL = RHD / something / LEFT
LLR = LHD / something / RIGHT

Which may confirm that my LH mirror came from a RHD car and explains why it doesn't function as expected. If that's the case, I hope a new mirror will solve this.

PROBLEM SOLVED!

Well, I went ahead and bought another LH mirror. This one is stamped "LLL". It had a sticker with F0149103U668B, I'm thinking these are the internal P/N's for Magna (the OE supplier).

Anyway, it works as it should!

Moral of the story: make sure you purchase LHD mirrors for LHD cars and RHD mirrors for RHD cars or you'll have wonky controls.

Solution:

The electronics are different for lhd and rhd mirrors.

Swap from the old mirror all the wiring and everything will work.

My issue was i hit my right mirror and replaced it with a rhd model. My car is lhd.

The switch to control the mirror worked only in left position and both mirrors worked at the same time.

I cut the yellow and white wire, and then joined them from the old connector. They are for the folding option and it was difficult to remove them from the folding motor as they go too deep under and i was afraid i wouldn’t be able to fit everything back how it was. All other wires are easy to replace.
