Venting Amplifier
I was wondering has anyone added a fan or some other cooking assistance to the factor amp location?
I'm going to be installing JL Audio XD600/6 and XD600/1 in there this week. I know it's been done before but it pretty hot currently (100+ Fahrenheit) and I don't want my amps to overheat and possibly fail (took me a few months to find a xd600/6). I believe there is a factory vent in the left side of the trunk but would adding a computer fan to the gray cover allow for a better ventilation system? Or does anyone know if the vent is used to release heat or pull in cool air?

I wouldn't worry about it .
There is thermal protection I believe the amp will shutdown if it goes into an overloaded state. You would really have to be slamming the volume for that to happen. Give Jl a call if you are really worried about it. Read the Jl Audio manual . I would worry about water getting into that area through the usual routes Sunroof drains, Trunk and Taillight seals. |

Seems to be Universal there is a law suit about it.
Comes up here a lot. I wouldn't put the amps in such that the hot air from one feeds the other . You won't know till it happens so avoid it by checking the sunroof drains and come to think of it only the solid roofs are mostly the ones reported. |
