Hey guys....got a coolant low warning over the weekend. Been reading up on the forums to see what I should use to top it up....some ppl say just use distilled water n some say use the BMW stuff.
Anyone here had to top their coolant up? What did u use? Thanks!

I would recommend using caution if you were to add distilled water due to the cold winter weather.
Of course BMW uses a special brand and type of fluid. It is all up to you what you want to do, but just don't go and buy the cheapest stuff possible at a place like Canadian Tire! |

Rear Fogs
Just an fyi, I recently read over some old posts regarding enabling the rear fog switch, I completed it in about a 1/2 hour on my e90 and really enjoy have rear fogs now. The threads are a bit scattered and all of the pics don't seem to be in one place but let me know if anyone wants the procedure. I believe on 2009+ cars the switch is ready to go and all that needs to be done is to cut the small tabs on the back side switch to enable.
Once pressed I have the rear fog indicator on my cluster turn on. |

BMW's have front fogs and in Europe they have rear fogs as well, the brake light for the adaptive lights has a second light, there is a blank switch next to your fog lights, the switch is there you just need to cut out the tabs holding it in place, when you turn it on you get a high intensity light in your brake lights, great for fog, or just stopping the tailgating from some idiot in an F150, which I found out yesterday works well.

Just in case anyone is interested I put together this quick guide.
Sit in the car to your left there is a vent next to the steering wheel, take your fingers (or pry tool) I didn't have any problems using my hands, from the right hand side and begin to pry out the vent, it is held together with friction the unit will start to come loose, don't pull too hard because the the facade is connected to the vent itself, the vent can come out easily as well, just some tabs on the back. Once you have that off you can pull out the bottom light control unit the same way with just a little pulling pressure. There is a black box now visible to you, there are 5 if I remember tabs, just pry them a bit with a flathead, they will pop off, once you have that assembly off just look inside where the blank switch is, inside there are 2 small clips holding the switch in place, use a small screwdriver to gently pry them, you will hear a click and the switch is free of the unit, simply look at the back of the switch plate now, there are 4 tabs preventing the switch from being pressed, cut those off with a blade or nail cutters, etc, put the switch back in and button up everything else and you are good to go, shouldn't actually take more than 15 minutes but I was too timid when prying. Turn on your lights and press, you will now see a secondary fog indicator in your cluster. |

They were very unprofessional when I dealt with them. They did a substandard job on my wheels. I had to take them back after their initial work because they were badly scratched on the clearcoat after supposedly being refinished, and I watched one of their guys in the back hand "polishing" them with PAPER TOWELS!! When I made an objection to that, they acted like I was crazy for even thinking that paper towel can scratch paint. (Then they also fed some BS story to the sales manager at my dealership that oh don't worry our wheel paint is harder than regular paint and won't scratch). Go to ANY car detailing forums and ask for an opinion on paper towels! And the one wheel that had some really bad curb rash they did not properly repair. To this day it is less than perfect and I may still try and get it redone elsewhere. The only reason I went to Alloy Wheel Repair at all is because I was getting warranty work done on the rims (for 3 of the 4, since the curb rash on the 4th was on me), and that is the place Edmonton BMW uses. I've had several friends and businesses since then recommend Wheel Works. I have not used them yet myself, but that is where I intend to go next time I need any kind of wheel repair or repainting done. |

Coilover Installers Calgary or Edm
Does anyone know of an installer for coilovers in either Edm or Cgy?, I tried Autoworks in Calgary however they were quoting $8 bills...which seems a bit excessive.
