Continued the painting of the interior trim. I did decide to go with a darker red. Chose a GM paint - Dark Garnet Red Metallic, a color used by GM from the early '90s. A couple of days ago I picked up one can at a local store to test it out. It was enough to do the console piece and the small dash piece, so those are finished up. Ordered three more cans, which arrived today, so I did the rest this afternoon. I will let them cure for a few days - I'm away Sunday to the middle of next week on a Corvette road trip to Cooperstown - so won't try to install until I get back. It is via rattle can so there are some flaws so I will let it cure and then wet sand and polish.
Will update once installed. Oh, and sold my OE 16" wheels today to a guy with a '99 Z3. K9Leader |

Had some time today (and was anxious to see how the trim would look) so I installed today:
Definitely an improvement over the wood paneling look . . . Also bit the bullet and ran the cable for the GPS - looks so much better without wires hanging off the dash. However . . . purists, look away/stop reading . . . I had to put a hole through the soft plastic of the dash for it to work. Cable runs through the dash and then through the mount. The mount is by Kuda and I really like that it does not have to hang off of a vent or sit on a weighted base on top of the dash - it at least tries to look like it was meant to be there. K9Leader |

I installed MHD stage 1, car feels amazing!
I have noticed that there is (very brief) surge after some boost/rpm levels, so there may be an upgraded BOV in my car's future soon. Other than that, I am very pleased. The driveability has actually improved, which is not what I was expecting. They probably undid some of the emissions-related compromises that BMW made initially.

Discovered a crack in my CV joint. Something smacked the metal cap and cracked it good. It's flinging grease everywhere. Time for a new axle.
This is a case where an indy is a better option than DIY. I'd save maybe $100 at most if I bought the special tools required for this job. Axles don't come out often, so it'll be a better option for me to have someone else do it than to buy the tool. I risk the axle being heavily stuck as well, requiring an air hammer to remove. It sucks, but sometimes you need to pick and choose your battles - especially if your car gets you to work. For those interested in doing this, you will want this tool as a minimum. Getting splined axles back into a hub can be a real challenge. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00W76LCQG..._tpryBb121F484 Last edited by Welcome to NBA Jam; 07-31-2018 at 09:01 PM.. |
