Would proof of funds be sufficient for a potential buyer to test drive the car? Would be hard pressed for someone who is interested to show up with almost 20 large in a briefcase. Before I bought a e39 M5 back in 2011, I test drove a e46 M3 and a e34 M5 from separate owners who both required proof of funds. |

those prices are insane.
I love the wagons. I paid a premium for my e91, and my wife's volvo is well loved and tuned as well. but thinking that there's an e91 out there that's worth 20 grand with 100K miles on it? That's just crazy talk. I gave 10 for mine with 100K miles on the clock, with more options than that one has. like comfort access and sport seats and I still feel like I overpaid just because I wanted a wagon. |

Here's an example of a similar car (M Sport, but xdrive) with similar mileage. Sold for a bit under $17,500 plus BAT fees - https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2010-bmw-328/ The lack of modern replacement is what is likely keeping values high on these. |

Does that even matter?
Does everything have to be, it's either an M3, or it has no value? I mean, how practical is an E9x M3 compared to an E91? The thing about a 6-speed, N/A 6 wagon is you can have both fun and practicality. An M3 is a totally different beast with a totally different set of values. It's the same reason people get annoyed when posts about anything other than a 335i get shouted down by "just buy a 335i". Like, we couldn't afford one when they have basically depreciated to nothing, and chose something else for reasons other than cost... |

Different strokes for different folks at the end of the day.
You'll always have a cross-section of vehicles that meet at the same price point. Right now you can buy a loaded new 330i or a used M3 of the same generation for the same price point. You can also buy a really nice E46 ZHP or a beat to the ground E46 M3 for around the same. I wouldn't personally touch a sub-$20k E9X M3 with a 10 foot pole. And FWIW E9X M3 is a different car than I want, I fell in love with BMW's N/A 6MT + RWD layout. Hell, I didn't even really care for the E92 335i that I ordered new. |

I think the conversation is relevant because of the cost in this case. I'd say that the M3 offers a driving experience befitting its price tag and that the extra utility of the wagon does not justify a 10k premium added to its price tag. I think that when you are talking about cars with extraordinary price tags the conversation is different from "just buy a 335i" that comes with damn near the same price tag. The only reason the wagon's price is justified is the rarity and that changes everything. Anyway, it doesn't really matter. people gonna pay a lot. that's fine. I genuinely hope they enjoy them! |

Like many have said, under 500 in the United States. In Europe they are much more common.

The size thing. Yeah, but After having a few of these cars and the previous gen M3s I guess I’m just realizing I’d rather have the performance. Personal feeling. Last edited by tlow98; 10-11-2018 at 01:37 AM.. |

for that kind of money there are more powerful and fun wagons in this size range. for 20K you can buy a much newer turbo volvo with fewer than 100K miles. yes, I came from the volvo world. there's a tuned turbo i5 in a wagon in my driveway. I'm not one to tell someone how to spend their money, I'm just saying that I personally think that 20K for a 3 series NA wagon is crazy talk, and that here are other options that I would pursue. Like a turbo P3 volvo wagon. |

So i'll just put out there that I found one at a Subaru dealership last march for $8000. Its a manual, RWD, '09, with 120,000 miles and a few options.
I took it to the local BMW dealership, where all its services were done by the 1 previous owner. They tell me its the only one they know of in the area. I've recently come into possession of a new '18 wrangler though so either the BMW or my '01 Porsche boxster are probably gonna have to go soon x.x |

Price-wise, ultimately it comes down to what it would take to pry mine from my cold, dead fingers. Original owner, ordered my way, memories of driving around Europe in it, near perfect condition and ~46K miles now. Let the bidding begin if anyone really wants it. As I said in another post - I plan to be like the guys today who go to Oktoberfest with the 2002 they bought new someday. But I do have a price where I would part with it. A very high one.
