Base Audio speakers blown?
My recently acquired 2010 335i has base audio and it sounds like the passenger door speaker or sub is blown.
Can I swap in the sub or speaker from a Hifi system? I have a 2011 328 parts car that has Hifi audio installed. The parts car is non IDrive and had a double din head unit installed so a lot of parts are different. Last edited by Mike Atkisson; 09-07-2020 at 11:03 PM.. |

One side of car is distorted at very low volume so I am fairly certain it is blown.
This car is a just my fun play toy right now, but I would like it to work at least like it did when new. Not looking to upgrade, so I guess I will try to track down some stock speakers. |

Speakers can sound like crap because of the amplifier (or the deck power amplifier). I had to replace my original base audio deck because of this and around that era there were quite a few cars whose amps were replaced. If you have a parts car, swap the appropriate speaker and find out - maybe even from the rear door/deck?

Speakers in the parts car are from HIFi system so they are different ohm level than Base speakers in the car now.
I could swap all of the wiring from parts car to gain the rear amp but too much work for very little reward. |

After reading all of the upgrade info to go from Base to a high quality aftermarket system the cost involved seems to be pretty high.
I am really considering just pulling the wiring, speakers, and amp from my parts car and installing them. If I were to go this route would I just need to recode the head unit or would I have to find a different unit. I just want a fully working system for lowest cost right now. |

The hi fi system is crap to
and the Logic 7 system is not all that good. If you look at the specs for the output chips for Logic 7 at the power BMW claims for the under seats (70 watts) the chip is at 10 percent distortion. The only way they can get 40 watts on the door speakers is by using 2 ohm speakers. https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1144129 https://www.e90post.com/forums/attac...2&d=1435788287 Not something that I would recommend normaly but changing the head unit to after market ,if you don't have idrive ,might be a better path. You can get some head units that have fairly decent output power now if you look. Still the speaker's are crap. https://www.e90post.com/forums/attac...3&d=1435788303 Last edited by ctuna; 09-12-2020 at 02:55 PM.. |

I do have idrive so I have to stick with the OEM head unit.

yep it's pretty impossible to change an idrive. Nobody
makes anything that has compatible form factor . Because the screen is separate from the electronics. |

I do not know if name brand speakers are plug and play with the base audio, but if not you could get something from Bavsound. I looked into their base audio upgrade, and it is about $400 for much better sound (supposedly) I think that would be much easier than rewiring the whole car to get hifi speakers installed. |
