No audio sound/phone/bluetooth after clutch replacement

Hi all,

First- time poster here.... I am looking for some advice.

A few days ago the clutch on my 2006 330xi (116,000 miles) suddenly went out. I had it replaced at a mechanic who has worked on this car, our VW and my Mini Cooper for about 14 years, very trustworthy guy. A newer guy did the repair, replaced the clutch, the flywheel, and I needed two new tires.

I picked up the car Friday night, and $3200 later, the clutch works great, but on the way home I realized the iDrive, phone, radio, SW multifunction buttons were not working at all, and the "SOS" light was on.

Took it back today, and they suspected the satellite phone module is bad and want to get a jumpwire to check that out - they had on, could not find it, want me to leave the car with them to check things out further.

I find it REALLY hard to believe that the MOST system was working just fine up to the moment the clutch went, and then suddenly stopped working right after the replacement!

Today the mechanic lifted away the console around the iDrive button and realized it was not plugged back together. Battery cables checked and are tight.
He plugged the IDrive wires back and it works, but no audio/BT/phone.

I played around with pressing the CD and DVD buttons the same time as the radio power button and the iDrive button, to reset the system. I tried inserting a CD and can use the multifunction buttons to change tracks, etc. but NO SOUND. The radio stations can be changed, I can even see the name of the song but NO SOUND. I am not able to turn on the Bluetooth, it is grayed out, as is anything to do with the phone.

My question is, does anyone know if the amplifier or fiber optic loop is located anywhere near where he would have worked to repair the clutch? He admitted going in through the top console (where the iDrive button and wires are) to do something with the shifter - the work was not all done just underneath the car.

They are implying that electronics in BMWs can be "buggy" and weird things sometimes happen, etc. While I really like these guys, this is just way too coincidental to me! Any help appreciated.

As I responded in the emails .
Most likely Most Bus is not plugged in either at the test point under the steering wheel
or at the idrive . At the idrive connector there is a chance it's not pushed in all the way
and or they damaged the Fiber optic lines.

If it was me I would look at the test point there should be light shinning out of one
side of the fiberoptic that goes to the idrive. If it's not maybe the fiber cable is not
plugged in at the idrive or damaged.

Your analysis is right on track.
All the alarm's usually come from the stereo in an idrive car.
When you say top console do you mean the shifter cover or the dash?
If he had all the electronics out good chance something is not plugged in all the
way or damaged.

They let the new guy put tires on my rims when I had an e46 at a reputable
Indy and he scratched every one.

A thousand thanks to ctuna and to Lotus99!

I took the car back, asked the installer if he had to access the panel under the steering wheel to get to the clutch stop. He said he removed the panel and had another guy reinstall it. Told him I thought the maybe the MOST Bus connector was loose/had not been reconnected. He came over and said "Thanks for fixing your car!" It had not been reconnected. Everything works A-OK now!

So for those of you with issues like mine after a clutch replacement, have them check the MOST Bus connectors in the front area, if they installed a clutch stop.

I hope they experienced severe embarrassment.
