Good result Socks for just 19 psi boost and E70 fuel. It will interesting to see what it will put out with some more boost and E85 fuel.

Logs look great We could have pushed it further just for numbers sake, but you know Tim is not the type of guy to go super aggressive on the tune for a glory run Need to fix the internal wastegate leak before we can add more boost It is still not clamping properly, so we are looking at the eWG45 as a solution but turbosmart still have not shipped anything yet, despite launching the product range at SEMA last Nov |

Can you just use an external wastegate on the manifold? Ditch the internal? I know this would mean removing the manifold and welding on 1 or 2. This is what 99% of the single turbo N54s have.

Good thinking Torg, unfortunately no way to do this without replacing the whole turbo. Really need a stronger actuator, hence why we have been looking at installing the electronic one from turbosmart..... still no word on when they will actually be available

I've been speaking to a very reputable source who explained to me in great detail the issues that they have had with them (as he is a re-seller of turbosmart), and it has to do with heat soak and tune-ability. So long story short, they basically designed a really expensive electronic paperweight. So it will be a little while before they are released as they need to look at redesigning the whole thing. So I am told. |

Rear Speakers
Regular readers will know that the audio upgrade in spcgry has been a long drawn out project. Involving a few different sets of speakers along the way. Including a set of audiophile grade Critical Mass CM454a mids and tweeters. These have been sitting in a box gathering dust, so decided to put them to good use as rear speakers. Steve and the boys at profound sound, did a great job as usual, swapping out the focal BMWIFs for the CMs. A quick tune and we were on our way. The set up sounds amazing.... big thanks to Steve and the lads.... awesome work as always Pics below: Pic 1, 2 & 3 - Spcgry at Profound sound Pic 4 - Magic in progress Pic 5 - Rear view of door card Pic 6 - View of rear seats and wiring Pic 7 - Installing door card Pic 8 - Panel in Pic 9 & 10 - Done |

Now that all the hardware is installed, am getting ready to take the SQ audio build to the next level Kinda low on funds with the whole covid lockdown thing going on, so am going to have a crack at this myself All I need to do is get the car back from Vinces, where he is installing mods 126 & 127 Pics below |

Did the shop you got it installed from not do a tune on it? Did they just do the install? |

Yep, the shop did the install and tune and for stage 1 it's great Tbh I could probably leave it alone and be happy, but I am sick and always have to have a modding project going on with this car Unfortunately I don't know anything about car audio and SQ tuning, but like most things with this build, Ill have to do some research and just have a go From what I have read so far, hardware, speaker placement, sound proofing and tune are the key components As far as hardware and speaker placement is concerned, that's kinda done. The gear is pretty solid and while the speakers are probably not in the best locations, Ill just have to live with that. I don't really want to spend more money moving the sub bass to the kicks unless I absolutely have to. Hopefully I can get a good result with the current kit and the current speaker locations. Re sound proofing, well this is definitely an area that can be improved haha Car is pretty loud, droney and rattles like a mofo. I'm planning to completely gut it including the headliner and dash (?) so will go full blown with the application, because I don't want to pull it all apart a second time haha Then there is the tuning aspect Been doing a bit of research on this and have much respect for people who do competition level SQ tunes. Is much more complicated then just setting crossovers There is an awesome free tool called REW for doing RTA measurements and some great online tutorials on tuning etc. Would appreciate any links to stuff you think would be helpful Pretty sure I will never get the car to sound as good as a professional, but hopefully with some help of you guys on the forum it, wont come out like this hahah Last edited by Socket; 07-21-2020 at 01:17 AM.. |

Mod 126 - Mosselman Oil Thermostat Unit
Anyone who owns a N54 will know that the oil filter housing gasket (OFHG) is a source of constant oil leaks and just a common problem with this engine. Regular readers will also know that eliminating this leak on spcgry has been an ongoing battle which has included installing a brand new oil filter housing, deleting the thermostat and now installing a billet Mosselman unit, along with up all new oil lines to give us the best chance of success. If this doesn't work then, we will have to admit defeat Big call out to Vince who did the install and a great job as always Pics below Pic 1 - OFH thermostat delete plate (delivered 7/10 result) Pic 2 - New OFH + delete plate (delivered 9/10 result) Pic 3 - Billet Mosselman unit (result TBA) Pic 4 - Ready for install Pic 5 - New hoses and routing Pics 6 & 7 - Installed Last edited by Socket; 07-21-2020 at 09:58 AM.. |
