Yep wiring in the starter system some where.
I bump started the starter so it works. No signs of it ever failing. I found a detailed wiring diagram for the starter and alternator used for a bmw mechanic tutorial. Ill keep trying today. |

Took earth strap off near passenger rear wheel well looks good put back on.
So ive got 12v from battery positive. 12v at jump start and other 2 wires next to it 12v at starter 12v at altenator tested white cable from box under inlet manifold to starter for continuity or what ever its called which passed pulled the relay out again from top right of fuse box in glove box, googled how to test relay and hooked a battery up to 2 terminals and it clicked when touching. clutch switch when off and ignition on then press to start no fuel pumps go, when clutch switch on ignition on then press to start fuel pumps fire up. its looking like unknown earth or trigger switch between clutch signal and white cable under manifold. not sure if starter is earthed in its own body or a strap I cant see it or remember. back on google images... |

Trigger to starter motor is 2.5v when ignition on and 12v when try to start engine.
Has to be the trigger thing inside starter or earth inside starter??? |

The bad part is I have to remove the engine and transmission from the car to get 1 strarter motor bolt out.
I originally had both bolts accessible from the front but one was just workung as a dowell for laterial movement. When I recently pulled the engibe out I put it in a more secure way from the rear. I can get access to the bolt but unable to wind it out enough before it gets stuck on the converter. Once remove ai will be welding a stud from adapter plate so the starter can be removed from the front. Rookie mistake but Ill fix it. Roll racing 28th June gives me 1 wknds to remove engine and put it back in. |

Ive got about 10mm clearance between flexplate and converter.
Then about 350mm length to where bolt is. and about 1/8th of a turn which isnt enough for a socket to get onto the next knotch to re turn on head of bolt to re loosen. The bolt is threaded in the starter so I would need to loosen the bolt from frint of car and cut the bell housing side multiple times. I could put a slot in bolt as its hanging out 8mm from starter and loosen it but getting a tool in there would be very difficult and the head of the bolt is obly 20mm away from the bell housing. I might actually be able to get the trans off as I made more clearance last time I oulled the engine and trans out. Thrn I just have to undo the exhaust take drive shaft off then trans off.... 10 hours work compared to 30 hours.. |

You must be getting use to removing the engine and transmission by now Brule since you done this a few times over the past couple of months. Hopefully for you, this is the last time for a while.

Took me 7 hours this time.
I know all the socket sizes off by heart. Funny thing is I changed the direction of the starter bolt last time I pulled the engine. I forgot to put the one from the rear in before I put the transmission on. So I made a snug shoulder on the bolt into the block. Thats what I will do this time. |

Starter motor is dead.
Starter motor has a bolt going each way. The bolt head on the transmission side could not physically come out. I was about 0 out of 10 excited to pull the engine out due to 1 bolt in a starter motor. Gives me a chance to improve some things. |

Had a go this morning and a bit this arvo.
Removed manifold ready for revision 3. Main issue ease on install and more importantly fitting heat sinks for O2 sensors. Where they are fit fine but the heat sink adds another 20mm of length so Im moving them. Before I do any more manifold works Ill put the engine back in. Photo of manifold and intercooler cause its my favourite part. |

Engines back in.
Trans mount back on. Changing manifold to free up some room, make it easier to install and allow more flow through 3 inch exhaust. |
