I've been toying around with a setup like this later on.
slapping some 18's on with some beefy tires.

Rolling around with 19" and low pro's, I forgot that my car was comfortable once.

You keep the same overall size.

19x30 -> 18x35 -> 17x40

19x35 -> 18x40 -> 17x45

I would never run 225/35 tires. I want meat on them.

I would like to run 245/40/18. BMW released many different rims on the 335i some were 17's, some 18's.

So I know there is a way to calibrate somehow.

I like this look a hell of a lot better than "stretch 'n' poke" - meaty fitments have a purpose (besides looking good.)

I really like the 17s on that blue car. I like my 19s... but those 17s actually look pretty good. Kind of a stock-car look.
