Is my clutch going out?
107k N54 335i. Over revs when I floor it and lug the engine a bit, pretty much any gear but 1st. Revs increase quickly (inconsistent with power) and dip back down before acceleration resumes at a normal pace. RPMs seem consistent when I don't WOT til' 4k+

I tried slowly letting out the clutch from a stop in 1st and the car pulled forward which made me think it might not be the clutch. The clutch pedal itself also feels fine though I do get intermittent creaking (sounds like its coming from the linkage, not the pedal). Not sure what else it could be but I'd like to rule everything out before committing to such an expensive repair.

Went through all of this year ago. Not every of shop can resurface dual mass flywheel. Check with your indi first.

My mechanic buddy drove the car the other day and said it's hotspot on the flywheel that's causing the slip (because the surfaces re-mate on their own instead of continuing to slip which would indicate a burned clutch). |

Learned it's pretty difficult to resurface a dual mass fly wheel. Apparently they're riveted together so it takes a very special shop to tackle it. Shame, those things 'aint cheap.

Quick tip, most OEM clutch's should engage/release mid pedal travel with a little bit (inch) of free-play in the pedal at the top (disengaged). If they're tight, engage right off the floor or at the top of pedal travel (no free-play) it's getting time to replace.
