No the pin will break. That is just for setting timing. You need to use a flywheel lock tool or some other redneck way to counter hold the rear of the crank/flywheel.

how do they do it when they swap the hub to a keyed or splined hub? they dont pull the transmission

You don't need to pull the transmission to use the flywheel lock tool. The transmission has access. Maybe ftermarket crank hub install instructions have different methods though. Google around if you're curious.
