Anybody with e91 6 speeds?

I have a 2006 e91 325xi 6 speed on 18s, wondering how common lowered wagons are in the community.

I see more stupid Lambo’s, McLaren’s and Ferrari’s than e91’s. Makes me think of trading in the Civic I use for Uber for a e91/6MT !

There's quite a few E91 owners on here. Very cool car indeed!

Dream car: E91 M3 conversion w/ S85.

There were way more XI wagons made in general than RWD models.

Anyways, I used to have one. I hurt my left knee and it took longer than I expected to heal so I sold it after a couple months of not driving it. I miss the crap out of it.

Did not know the Xi:rwd ratio. I guess that makes sense considering BMW went with the AWD only F31. Kinda makes me sad tho

Yeah, its kind of a shame how the AWD was implemented on the E9x cars. The transfer case itself, the supporting software, and the burly control arms are pretty cool, but its annoying that they softened up the suspension and added a super slow steering rack. For the 6MT cars, the way the transmission/transfer case assembly is mounted to the body results in a pretty crappy shift feel.

If they had wanted to, they could've really made the xDrive into a Audi fighter (read: "Sporty"), but instead they decided to chase the soccer mom crowd that wants a CUV, not a wagon.

I love sports cars, but need 4-doors, and like the utility a wagon offers. I also cross-shopped other wagons to the e91:
Volvo V70R (6-speed P2): was too crowded at front passenger well.
Volvo V50 R-Design: it's a lot of money for a Ford Focus. I'd rather have a Focus ST, which I do not want.
Audi anything: S4 Avant V8 timing chain guides?! ugh. The A3 e-Tron did pique my interest.
Saab 9-3 AeroX: this one was close, but they are hard to find in manual guise. I ended up with a 9-3 Aero, and thus already did the Saab thing.
BMW 535Xi: MT ones of these are extremely rare. Even SAT-optioned ones are hard to find.
CTS-V Wagon: $50k+?! No deal. Plus that D-pillar is gross.
Dodge Magnum: Serious contender in V8 guise, even without the MT
MB E55 AMG wagon: now we're talking! But that price, and no stick shift, and if you really want a durable MB wagon you want to get the Dodge Magnum.
The also-rans: OG Mini Clubman S, Jetta SportWagen, Subaru Outback 3.6R.

In the end what sold me was RWD + MT, plus less drivetrain complexity (no turbos to stress over, no AWD to address), without breaking the bank. A lot of the above commanded premiums due to the wagon guise, so the inflation for the e91 is not unique in the marketplace.

Mine has been a gem. It's got a few dings on it from the previous owner, but those are "sanity spots"- if I had a perfect car I'd lose my mind every time my kids walk over the seats or the cat leaves paw prints on the hood. Not to say I don't take care of it, as I do (to wit, one of the first things I did was spring for the detail + CeramicPro coating last year). The fun factor is there, provided you aim for the twisty bits instead of the freeway drag any time it is available. The utility is there; just last week I did a Costco run with my two-year old in tow, and came home with a grocery cart full and a 9-foot artificial Xmas tree (without strapping it to the roof!). the next day he and I bombed to the top of Mt Diablo for a father-son trip to look for tarantulas. It's functional, stylish, and fun, right out of the box. I have smile every time I am piloting it, and look upon it with fondness whenever I step out and look back at it. No car has given me that much joy since owning my first car 25 years ago, and that says a lot right there.

Yup! Not lowered, not sport package, and I have zero interest in lowering it or otherwise ruining the superb ride/handling balance.

A little sleeker than the Volvos.... by kevinr1916, on Flickr

Dang. The F31s are gorgeous cars, I just wish they drove as well as the E91s and were available in RWD. I even like the interior and slightly larger size, which a lot of BMW purists seem to hate.

If you really want to go hard building a F31 you could just do a full drive train swap with a 335/40i. I am personally one of those "purists" who dislikes the newer style of interiors, I see what BMW was going for in trying to appeal to mass-market (((luxury))) but that's not what I think of when I think "BMW", the 3-series at least. The whole design ethos that the new(now old) BMW CEO was pushing is meant for something like Audi, trying to make BMWs into something they historically are not, thus diluting the brand and falling into ranks with the other mindless manufacturers who want mass-market. Don't get me wrong, they are very nice interiors, but I wish they followed the previous generation's patterns of design.

I also think it's asinine how each series keeps getting bigger and bigger. Might as well just create a new series if you want to change the size of certain cars... oh wait.
