Question Camera for PDC on 135i E88?

Would love to have a backup camera. My existing PDC helps in parking, but the rear view from my 2012 135i convertible is terrible with the top up because of the small rear window and the huge blind spots.. makes it really hard to backup when you can't see back at an angle.
Anyone know if the this setup would work with my car?

Just found this camera/handle listed on Ebay for only $60 and states it will work with my series, but don't know about the hookup at the NAV unit, etc.?

I can find any listing for a reverse image camera emulator for the 135i E88 series on Ebay, will the one the OP listed work, or do I even need one for my NAV unit?

Thanks,

Install help?

Anyone live in the Monterey, CA area who could help me install one of these? I would only need help with the proper wiring to the unit and with the coding, as I'm sure I can install the camera/latch and get the wires run up to the front.

Would gladly pay for the help, or just have a new Bimmer friend to talk to.

Thanks,

I bought a replacement camera from ebay as my camera eventually went a bit blurry then more and more temperamental where it would not show anything when engaging reverse, and after recent weeks there was some condensation forming inside the lens.

New camera has slightly different power/rca wires compared with my original autofocustech camera, but i figured I could just cut and solder the new wiring to the old.

The only difference is now I am having to power the camera from the reverse light instead of the white wire from the emulator. I figured this would be 12v so would do the same job...

The problem I have is that with the ignition on but car not running, the camera works fine wired up this way.
When I start the engine, the camera signal goes all funny for a second then just shows a black screen.

Upon checking the voltage to the reverse light, is is just under 12v with ignition on so camera works ok, but with engine running, the voltage at the reverse light goes up to 13.5-14v.

This must be too high voltage for the camera and so the signal dies. Any ideas why there is this high voltage at the reverse light with the engine running, rather than 12v??

Reverse light voltage can be changed by coding. US cars output 11 volts which is not enough to power the camera so most people use a relay.

Thanks, I'll have a look I to the coding. I can rewire the new camera connections so that I can use the 12v power from the white wire on the emulator I stead (like I was with the previous camera)
However, when checking the voltage on this white wire, I'm only getting around 3v from it? Anyone else have problems not getting 12v from the emulator white wire? Could this be caused by various canbus errors due to having things connected/disconnected etc?

I was having similar issues with my emulator not providing 12v as intended. The seller did not want to provide a replacement and kept insisting that it was installation error. I ended up tapping into a switched fuse in the fuse box.

Thanks, after more testing, I'm getting 12ish volts from the white emulator wire with ignition on, regardless of car being in reverse or not, and 14ish volts on the same wire when the engine is running, regardless of the car being in reverse or not.

Would this indicate a faulty emulator? Did anyone else get this behaviour when testing during install?

The other odd thing is on the red wire in the boot, which is fed from the white emulator wire, is only showing 3.3v - this is the red cable running the length of the car inside the main yellow rca cable. This is tge original cable ive been using for the past couple of years with no problems. What could be causing this, some sort of voltage regulator? Does that mean the autofocustech cam actually only requires 3.3v to work? Wondering if this is why my new cam isn't working as it needs the full 12v?

The wires inside the autofocus harness are tiny. Mine broke after few years of switching things around. I also had a bad ground point in the trunk so check that also. https://www.ebay.com/itm/283277878443

Have you tried using another video source to narrow down the cause of the issue?

When I had this issue, my camera was the problem. I was able to test this by using a handheld camcorder as the video source which I plugged into the RCA input.

Hi, just wanna some help.

I manage to succesfully code $3AG in the CAS and NFRM module.

then the CIC module 1st reading

MACRO_PDC
aktiv
MACRO_REARVIEW
nicht_aktiv
RVC_CIC
wert_23
MACRO_L6_PARKMENU
nicht_aktiv
PDC_DIRECTION
horizontal

after coding i read once again the CIC to make sure everything is ok. And i get

MACRO_PDC
aktiv
MACRO_REARVIEW
aktiv
RVC_CIC
wert_23
MACRO_L6_PARKMENU
nicht_aktiv
PDC_DIRECTION
horizontal

so the macro_rearview has changed !!
but the rvc_cic macro_l6_parkmenu pdc_direction are still the same.

can someone help me please !!

NB: e90 LCI rear pdc

Hi All!

I was hoping I could get some help.

# Parts I ordered

Autofocustech PnP emulator
https://www.ebay.com/itm/CIC-Retrofi...72.m2749.l2649

Autofocustech RVC
https://www.ebay.com/itm/E82-E88-E84...72.m2749.l2649

# Installation

I connected the PnP harness to the back of the CIC and transferred the fiber optic cables. The video yellow RCA cable came with a red wire which I attached to a 12V source. The black wire from the video camera is grounded to the chassis. The redwire with the black wire is unused.

# Coding
I added $3AG to CAS/FRM. I coded CIC.C1A to defaults and PDC first then I added the following to the CIC module:
Code:
MACRO_PDC
aktiv
MACRO_REARVIEW
aktiv
RVC_CIC
wert_23
MACRO_L6_PARKMENU
aktiv
PDC_DIRECTION
vertikal
# Problem
When I put it in reverse, I hear the beeps but do not see the screen change to the PDC screen. When I turn disable MACRO_L6_PARKMENU I get the PDC menu but without the menu on the side and double PDC vertical display cars. I checked that the video camera was getting 12 volts with a voltmeter.

I emailed autofocustech and they believe the emulator is the correct one even though it is missing the white wire. Any ideas?

Hi guys, I have the same issue as Derbo

I've an e93 M3 2010 LCI

Purchased the same camera and same PnP emulator as Derbo from Autofocustech and did the programming on CAS and FRM using NCSExpert the coded the CIC

I've powered the camera from the reverse light power supply, you have to use a filter between the 12v supply from the reverse light and the camera power supply wire to remove the CAN signal interference

Any ideas appreciated

When I contacted Autofocustech they said they'd been selling the PnP emulator for 7 years and had not had any issues

Cheers

Unhappy

hi, the plug n play does not come with a wire for camera power, when I emailed the seller on ebay (Autofocustech) they said connect to reverse light

It also does not work for me

Done all the coding, checked all the cables, taken the emulator out and removed the coding and everything works as normal, put the emulator in and do the coding and it does not work

I've tried everything I can think of to get it working, any ideas appreciated

Cheers

I'm not sure tbh. The vendor also says its the correct emulator. Since I have two E90s that I was planning to do this to, I just bought the emulator to hardwire and bought a quadlock extension to do the soldering.

I verified the rear view camera works by plugging it into a TV so at least I know the camera isn't a dud.

SUCCESS !!

i wasn't able to code the CIC. After each coding i checked the CIC values and they were still the same. till i figured out that NCS was trying to code the CIC.C08 version but i'm on *.C16.
So i performed a full edit profile on ncsexpert. Then when i changed job to SG_codieren it was on the CIC.C16.

Great ! Now the coding on cic module is still written as i wish.
Code:
FA $3AG on CAS and NFRM
MACRO_PDC
aktiv
MACRO_REARVIEW
aktiv
RVC_CIC
wert_21
MACRO_L6_PARKMENU
aktiv
PDC_DIRECTION
vertikal
MACRO_PDC_TOPVIEW
aktiv
TVC_WIDTH_0C
wert_02
- PnP harness whith emulator from Aliexpress (47$)
I didn't had to play with RCA video slot position. just remember to remove the opticals wires from the original quadlock to the adapter at the bottom of the CIC unit.
Very tricky to store it under the CIC unit. I had to attach the harness to a strong wire and pull hard this wire to the glove box.
this harness is too short IMO
little welding on +12v (yellow wire not white as everyone) from emulator
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/for-...2b394c4d2AmxZX
(emulator included)

- Rear camera with dynamic trajectory lines
nothing special about it, including 6M video cable with power extension.
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Dyna...2b394c4d2AmxZX

at the end of the 6M extension powercable i get 12.3v from the emulator. and the camera is satisfied with it.

now it's time to find a hidden path for RCA extension cable.

Voilą c'est fini ! sorry for my english
