opinions will vary. I'm a noob too, so here's what i've learned.

you will probably want a bigger selection of pads, so you can use the appropriate one for the job at hand, especially important on black cars. (always start with least aggressive) Detailed Image has a nice 7 pack of assorted ones, and you can customize the order so you get exactly what you need.

i'd want to have way more microfiber towels. i'd get a bunch of normal loft for polish/wax/whatever removal. and a few high loft ones for buffing to a nice shine.

as always, the detailed image site has lots of great advice. and greg from DI frequents this forum too!

Definitely get more microfiber towels to buff off unless you want to be constantly rinsing and drying the same one. Also, a drying towel will make life a whole lot easier. It's hard to say what else because you only know what you're missing when you start using products you recently bought.

I would say ditch the pads and get the Megs MF buffing pads that go with the D300 / 301 (compound and wax). Oh, and the DI microfiber or CG microfiber cleaner is great for cleaning your cloths after the job.

i heard the orange pads are better than the mf ones supplied in the kit, followed with a black polishing pad at least on a black sapphire

I hope you have more than one pad in each color/cut? I had two and it was getting pretty caked on by the end of each half of the car. I would have liked to have three or four of each color.

Congrats and good luck. It isn't easy work, but it is very rewarding when finished.

Like everyone is saying..... more pads and more variety of pads. a Pad cleaner spray and a brush would also be helpful during the job. Foam pads are great for certain aspect of the job but do invest in some microfiber ones as well. in the future, experiment with other polishes as well as different size pads. detailing is both an art and a science.

the science - the equipment and basic polishing technique.
the art - knowing the various combinations ( which pad with which polish with which technique ) and their respective results.

I wish there is a ABC method that works for all cars.... we could save so much time and money.

Good luck and remember to have fun......
