Cool My first track day

Hi all! I'm new here so I thought I'd say hello. I'm going on a track day for the first time in a car that I've not driven all that much - an automatic 335D Coupe.

I've never *ever* been on a track day before, and normally drive a car you'd all laugh at if I said what it was so do you have any tips for a n00b?

Also, I'm just feeling around the forum - is there a proper place to go and introduce myself?

Ever since I drove in and around Spain in the 335D I've been a little bit in love... time to save my pennies so I can have my very own BMW in time

I would recommend that you go on the inspection lap that is normally offered after the briefing before the track opens. It gives you a good impression of the track layout and the corners. If possible try to get an instructor and get a few tips on the lines and braking points in your car. Your biggest limitation on a track day will be your brakes, so you may have to limit the number of laps and do a few cool down laps if possible before coming in. Limiting the laps and cooling down things will prevent pad material build up on the discs and allow the car to cool down quicker. If you do stay out for too long you will probably start to hear you brakes drum as more pad material is deposited on the discs. This doesn't mean that your discs are warped, but you just have to rub them down or drive them normally for a week or so before they stop making noise.

In general just take it easy, get comfortable with the car and the racing lines and enjoy yourself.

where are you going Brands? if so its a pretty deceptive track, spend the whole track time going steady, learn the lines and if possible have the 30 min lesson thats offered. be careful of other faster cars coming up behind especialy into the corners and DONT think you are MS after an hour you will come unstuck (save that for the 2nd track day). not aiming this at your personal ability but have seen many new to the track drivers who get overconfident and end up bending their cars! enjoy it its a great experience.

Do you have an XBOX/PS? Not saying you'll learn any type of limits or true braking points, but might help you to learn the track and the appropriate lines.

You are my good mate Ian's daughter. So HELLO and welcome! I've had some fun with your old man on the 'Bahn's over the years when I had my 335d!

Vroooom!
