That is pretty nice. Does it completely remove the ashtray or use the optional non ashtray oddments tray?

I just went with the OEM non ashtray oddments tray and a wireless charger inside it

I bought a 3amp 5v converter and wired it into the old ashtray connection. I cut the wires and spliced them but it could have been adapted with a tap or CLA adatper if someone preferred.

I did have to slightly enlarge (oval out) the hole (that already existed) in the bottom under the factory mat then the charger fit right in.
If I had thought to get a USB C charging pad then that slight enlargement woudn't have been required but it is completely under the mat that comes with the cubby anyway.

The only visible part that really gives it away as not belonging is where I folded the flat wiring under the pad but most wouldn't notice it.



I think it looks good for what it is.

It replaces the oddments tray I bought one plus the exact pad you have but my ocd played up as it wasn't quite big enough so I used a rubber mat I had spare from a e46 centre console again not quite long enough so shortened another one and joined them together then made a qi charger with a coil etc then vinyl wrapped it and kept the lighter socket and used a usb c lead tucked it under the nav unit . I'm still not happy so want the above or failing that got a piece of plastic which will use a triple coil on and wrap it in Alcantra and have it at an angle .

This site seems reasonable unless the price changes it was only $38.94 with shipping for a 60% fill with black ABS making it strong: Don't use PLA if you live in a hot climate, it can melt inside of a car (well it can here in Phoenix anyway).

Note that the scale from that part appears to be in inches but double check the dimensions.

I would consider polishing it or sanding it yourself, Some 3d prints have a lot of lines and don't look great. If you sand it yourself then you could sand through. If you do then use some ABS pipe glue and acetone to fill/smooth.

This site seems more reasonable than most...

I looked at it and was going to print it but it is ~223.5mm wide my printer has a bed size of 200mm so it is just slightly too big to do in one piece.

I would have to cut it in half or perhaps modify the tabs to be printed separately to print it on my printer.

There are plenty of printers out there that are 300mm but unfortunately my enclosed printer is only 200mm.

Depending on your climate it should probably be printed in PETG, ABS, or some heat tolerant material. PLA would melt in Phoenix where I live so it isn't a good option.

I played around with this a bit and was able to print one. The only issue is that I had to print vertically so the top surface was created on the side and the 3d printer doesn't do as good of a job on side surfaces. (but at least I was able to print one)



I haven't test fitted it yet to verify that it fits. If it does then painting it with some plastic paint would probably fill any defects and make it look just about perfect. I did it in ABS (which is also more challenging material wise) so that it would take the summer heat. I find that ABS pipe glue also works well if any areas need to be filled and sanded.

I am not sure I would really like it better than my current setup. It doesn't seem quite wide enough where the cubby and rubber charge pad is bigger because it sits recessed.

I haven't installed it.

I printed it at 25.4x to IIRC to convert it from inches to mm.

Sounds good, I think what im going to do is to use a magsafe wireless charger (iPhone) and tape it onto the back. This will hold the phone in place and also charge. Then run the cable to the cigarette lighter in the centre console, should make for a fairly clean install.

Will your phone fit in it? My current phone actually doesn't fit in it....

The printout is only 2.9" wide at the front corners and my phone is 3" with the case. It also puts the phone at the top edge where it will need a magnet to ensure that it doesn't slide off where the setup I currently have puts the phone inside of the cubby so that isn't an issue.

I like the red light in the bottom of the trim panel any more details how you did that?

Sorry for the late response, I'm terrible at checking replies and I just printed this the other day.

I've wanted to utilize iPhone MagSafe charging to make this work. The layer between the surface and MagSafe Charger is about 2.5mm. I'm working on sanding this down as thin as possible. The phone charges but the magnet doesn't hold the phone in place. Either the magnetic ring on my phone case is too weak, the charger itself it weak or the material is still too thick. Trying to work through this.

I was thinking I could just put a rubber layer on top so that the phone doesn't slide around much. Also could just cut out the hole fully and put a sheet of plastic and rubber to maximize contact.

Just need to figure a creative solution out but so far it looks pretty decent.

Edit: phone is a iPhone XS Max so quite a big one. Phone just fits inside it with a thin case.

Did this on the Singer CTS (Classic Turbo Study) during the development of it. We found that for the magnetic feature to work, you couldn't have more than a sheet of paper thickness of material between magsafe charger and phone.

It does seem like the best option for this style charger would be to make a recess on the top side and glue it in.

Then it could be either painted or a thin vinyl wrap over it would probably still work and look very clean.
