How long is a battery suppose to last?
I had my battery replaced at 44k miles in November of 2015. I'm at 100k right now and the battery is almost 7 years old and still going strong. I'm curious if the original battery that came with the car isn't as durable as the battery that I got replaced at an indy shop?
Anyone else have their battery last 7 years and 56k miles? |

My OEM battery lasted me 7 years, ~65k miles. Replaced with aftermarket, hoping it'll last at least as long as the OEM one.

You'll get multiple reports ranging from 3 to 14 years.
Quote:
E91 - 10y/90K miles - replaced factory with AGM E70 - 10y/100K miles - factory, still going, AGM F25 - 6Y/50K miles - factory, still going, AGM E90 - 2Y/14K miles - NAPA, low grade, barely holding charge

If you're planning a car trip to the Arctic, I'd change the battery. Otherwise, pay attention to cranking speed, and when it starts getting slow, check the charging system with a voltmeter.

I just replaced my battery in my e90...
It lasted 10 years, 4 months. yes, over 10 years. It would've last a little longer, but the dealer killed my battery by putting my headlights ON instead of A and killed my battery last time I had it in for an oil change. Regular summer/winter cycles in the Northeast... mix of city/highway driving I do hook my car up to a trickle charger a few times a year as general maintenance, and there was atleast 1 or 2 times I didn't drive my e90 in the winter for a week or two, so i had it on a trickle charger then too. But, was really impressed my battery lasted as long as it did. There will not be the case with my g01 and all the electronic gizmos on it.

I think the original was there when I bought mine in '16 and replaced it the next year. I had five years on the replacement and 16K miles and five months on the second so far. It's not a garage queen and I haven't used a trickle charger, so that may have shortened the life of first replacement battery. I believe that the climate plays a large role in the expected life of a battery along with how often you actually drive the car.

As others have mentioned, there are many variables that determine battery life.
On seeing the "Increased Battery Discharge" message recently, I scanned using my Schwaben/Foxwell scanner and saw the logged 5 day battery charge info all reading around 70% That battery (Bosch AGM) was just 5 years old. Once I replaced the battery, the daily charge information jumped up to > 96% |

In my small sample size, being the couple e90s I've owned, the OEM batteries in these cars are the best I've ever seen. All of mine lasted more than 10 years. Normal life for a car battery is between 4-7 years or so

Got it, the car has been in California for the first 11 years of it’s life and now just spent 1 year in Texas.
Good to know others have had pretty extensive lifespan for their batteries to! |
