Could the bottom be near?

Wall Street plunges on global recession fears
Dow opens down nearly 500 points; world’s stock markets in tailspin.....

History will be made today I feel. In a bad way.
Time will only tell.

I'm thinking bottom = S&P at 800..if it drops below 800, things won't be pretty.

The circuit breaker or whatever they call it that shuts things down when it reaches a pre-determined mark went off today.

Erin Burnett on the Today show said she thinks it's safe to say we're in a recession. I believe she is right.

Which blue chips are you thinking?

I'm already in Exxon and GE (been for a long time).

I'm thinking of investing in one of T. Boone Pickens co's.

Some of the Nuclear projects may be an interesting look.....

Chrysler just announced 25% of it's white collared salaried employees will be terminated next month. I believe that is 15,000 people. Where are all the jobs going to come from to employ people?

I think the major indices DOW S&P and NASDAQ will fall further, mostly predicated on the investor pessimism. If you analyze what is transpiring closely, the market hypothetically has already digested most of the array of awful news, earnings...foreclosures, failures...etc...my point is: there are no longer fundamentals driving the markets anymore, hedge funds, investors, everyone is selling in a panic.

There are some great buys out there: not just in equities....think about diversifying yourself into hard assets as well. GOLD, SILVER, Platinum....all of these commodities are falling. Gold went below 700 today.

I know it sounds crazy...but the financials are attractive...at these prices...Goldman at 100 or below IMO is a steal....i own JP Morgan myself...thinking about making the move into GS.

The point is, try and remain confident in these troubling times, and think of it this way....there are some great buying opportunities out there, albiet things will probably get worse before getting better, the opportunity to buy like this comes along once in a lifetime.

Pickens Delays His Wind Farm Plan

By Kate Galbraith

T. Boone Pickens is delaying his plans to build the world’s largest wind farm, according to The Arizona Republic, which cited his remarks at a conference on Tuesday in Phoenix.
The Texas oilman, who has created a stir by his endorsement of wind power as part of a national strategy to reduce dependence on foreign oil, cited the fall in natural gas prices, a competing source of electricity generation, as a deterrent.
Mr. Pickens insisted that wind remained part of a national strategy, however, and predicted that energy prices would go back up.
From The Arizona Republic:
Until natural-gas prices rise, Pickens said his wind farm and most others in the country will not go forward because electricity from gas plants will be more economical. Still, he was confident prices would rise.
He said Americans haven’t understood the nation’s energy challenges because prices have been low, until last summer when oil hit a record $147 a barrel.
“You haven’t had the leadership in Washington to tell us what the problem was,” he said. “The American people did not realize where we were. When oil went to $100, I had a story to tell.”
According to Reuters, Mr. Pickens has already put in orders for $2 billion in wind turbines, which will be delivered beginning in 2010.
The credit crisis had already forced Mr. Pickens to delay an expensive power transmission project in the Texas Panhandle.
The fall in natural gas prices may be a boon to Mr. Pickens other goal, however — to get millions of cars and trucks running on natural gas.

Gonzo, you spec any lighting controls? RadioRa, HomeWorks, CentraLite, Vizia? So freaking expensive...they charge what the market will bear.

Retrofit, basement remodel.

Decided against the carriage doors, standard steel double instead. Room will never be a garage, while we own the house. Strictly a hobby room/workshop.

Jeezus I hope so... So here I sit at the end of 2008... Unemployed, portfolio worth about 55% what it once was. WTF? Time to go sky diving.

Bright side... Selling one bike and the 335 will allow me to keep a Motorcycle and the Pathfinder. All the real essentials are covered, as are basic living expenses so I feel pretty damned lucky.

Was actually thinking about going back to school full time, get another degree...

I never handled electrical. Construction side of my life has dwindled to a trickle. Doing some IKE relief in Houston here and there and that's it. Vizia is the only one listed that I have even heard of of.

Where the hell have you been?
Times are rough here in Dallas too. And we are in one of the better economic climates???
I have friends losing jobs, can't find jobs and really down on their luck too. My money has dried up too but still feel lucky I am not living in a card board box. Food, my dog, friends and family and everything will be OK, eventually.
I would love to unload my Titan. 06 with 30,000 miles. Paid 30K and got offered 10K.
