This is some awesome work, hats off to you! I'm excited to see the finished product.

Appreciate all the hard work you swappers are putting in! Hope to do the same one day after I acquire a garage :-)
I don't know your emission laws but most places if you keep the exhaust stock and the motor is newer than the car there is no issue. keep in mind this is based on going with a properly coded dme to your vin.

Appreciate the reply. yes, California is the same with regards to the exhuast and newer engine year. I guess the biggest question for me is how to get the DME done with the new car's VIN? That's the only thing i would not be able to do myself, atm.

We just finished something very similar.
Dropped a n54 with 6 speed AWD into a e91 325 6 speed AWD wagon. Going in for BAR approval in CA.... fingers crossed.
OP... Would be good to compare notes

To get the vin right you need to virginize the dme, put put the chassis code in and base tune for the engine. Then match up the CAS. The guys at RPM maybe able to do if they remember. Use the euro chasssis code for turbo wagon swaps.

It's possible, but not worth the hassle imo. The mounting points for the transmission brace are different on the xi chassis and the rwd chassis due to the added transfer case on the xi. From what I remember from all my research, you have to fabricate a custom bracket to make it work. Someone did it, and I remember seeing pictures and a thread somewhere but I can't remember where exactly. If I find it, I'll update my post!

Congrats! my goal here in BRazil as we have no 335i e91 here...
I will shoot you an PM, but here is my project for comments

Here in Brazil the last touring model available is 325i 2008.

I was considering to do a double swap: transferring a full pack of a still working e90 335i to my existing e91 325i and vice versa.

325i: pre LCI, N52, RWD, AT, full panoramic roof, no idrive

335i: pre LCI, n54, RWD, AT, sun roof, with idrive

I am considering to transplant:
- engine
- transmission
- diferential
- rear axis
- full dashboard (idrive) and steering wheel with tip
- front seats
- locks
- keys
- all wiring harness, modules(ecu..), optic fiber
- brakes

My suspension in e91 is already upgraded.

My main worries are:
1) should panoramic roof works ? easy programing or super difficult?
2) should I reprogram to get the correct model and vin in each car?
3) are the length of harness to trunk the same?
4) what steps should I follow to make things easier and faster?

Any other important thing I am forgetting of missing here?

Thank you very much for your attention and patience here.

Start a new thread for this rather than cluttering up Greg's thread. Post the link when you do and I'd be happy to answer a bunch of your questions
