Had a good run
Cylinder three had a bad day. Crosshatch still good on walls though! Fbo e60 and meth possibly lugged it just coming back from getting groceries lol. Only code was oil condition sensor. Checked compression after some solid misfiring and the usual coil swap checks and was very low. Cap of oil raised compression so I figured piston rings but this is better. |

Pop in a new piston and send it.

I'll likely pull it and do that and get a good look if there were any other underlying factors and slap a big single on it! Mulling around the idea of an ls3 swap if the walls are damaged if I can find a good canbus solution. There's a few people that have most of the can stuff figured out but the piston swap is the easier (and cheaper) option for now

Just drop another long block in. People can pretend that there's BMW "prestige" all they like, but E9x motors are a dime a dozen, and relatively easy to DIY swap. You can get a whole running 335i at auction for less than the cost of a brand new Mahle piston set.

So I'd say it was very likely too much boost at too low an RPM. well done though. Will make a good shop ornament. |

bank 1 looks decent minus #3 with a lot of oil in it. bank 2 is white as a ghost. too lean? IDK how you people remove the turbos underneath the car lmao. was difficult enough on the engine stand

For the layperson, E85 and methanol are not the same, correct? What fuel exactly were you using... Just sayin' cause I read probably too much and saw from this thread something about different densities of particular racing fuels... might be that a lugging the engine with a less dense fuel you can get away with more than if you switch to a more dense fuel and are trying to drive it the same way?
If you are thinking to dump $1500 into it and have it set up for racing, maybe invest in a set of forged pistons? |

meth/water is an additive used to cool the charge air, and combustion chamber temps. buuuuutttt, if you spray too much you will cause a spike in cylinder pressures, and crack pistons. Diesel trucks have been using it for years to control combustion chamber temps in turned up motors. https://www.snowperformance.net/Wate...-Gas-s/187.htm |
