Which 18" replacement tire set to get??
I know this is a topic that has been discussed several times, but I'm still on the fence and would appreciate the input from fellow E90 owners with past experience.
I've decided to ditch the RFTs for traditional summer tires (w/ stock dimensions). Trying to get my best (mid-range) bang for buck on tires, and narrowed it down to two options: 1. Michelin Pilot Super Sport and 2. Continental ExtremeContact DW The SS's and Conti rank #1 and #2 non-RFT replacements based on tirerack.com reviews, but the Contis are at least $250 less pre-tax/installation (++ for grad student) since they come with the factory road hazard program (extra for the SS's, but Michelins sorta make up for it with the February $70 rebate). Any downsides to this that would render the SS's a better set in the long run? #1 priority on my list is longevity, since both are already decent tires. Thanks!!! |

Conti's have really high ratings but both are good choices. I've never ran the SS's so I can't give you my personal opinion. I've ran a set of the DW's and they were awesome. I sold them before they ran out but they were great while I had them.

The Continental Extreme Contact DW is a great tires for the price. If the Michelin Pilot Super Sport didn't exist, it could very well be the best summer tire we carry without going to an extreme performance summer tire. The Pilot Super Sport is the best in its category regardless of price.

I know a guy who spent a bunch of money upgrading his suspension then put DW's on and is mad he did. The sidewalls are softer than PSS so the car rolls a bit more and turn in isn't nearly as sharp. Spend a little more money now and be happy with your tires instead of saving a few bucks and wishing you bought PSS's for the next couple years. Coming from PS2, I love my PSS's
