Cowl Delete?

Ok so I want to be able to easily remove my engine cover if I ever need to.

The cowl is always a pain to take down.

What solutions are there to make this easier?

Swap it out with these
https://www.turnermotorsport.com/f/p-552591-bms-cowl-filters-e82e90e92/

Search for them. There are threads on them.

You can. Just don't put back left screw in on the cover.

Got it ... then yea that's a serious option just expensive though and I wouldn't want to have to re-solder wires.

This is another option I guess

Also this set up leaves a big gap between the hood and engine bay where the oem cowl was. Looks unsightly but many say they can live with it.

Same here and I drive in winter.

Didn't want to risk it or have to change it at the end of the season.

Anyways it's not to bad currently with the stock cowl IMO.

IMHO, leave it in place and just deal with the 3 minutes it takes to remove it whenever you need to work on the engine. Another thing no one seems to talk about, but was the primary reason I got rid of my cowl-delete cabin air filters, is the hot air into the cabin. If you delete the cowl, the HVAC system sucks in hot engine-bay air. Even if it's 50F outside, you have to run the A/C or recirculate. It's that bad.

when i'm home in the garage i don't mind removing it. one time i got stranded though b/c a ignition coil died ... so getting to it was pretty bad - not even sure how i did it.

but yea i agree with you.

i'm going to have to put together a little toolset to carry in my trunk.

This is the reason I'm not doing the cowl delete. I am though going to replace the filters in there since it's probably time at 75k miles.

one of the biggest pinta with the stock cowl is putting on the stupid cable bracket... I just removed mine and used velco tape to hold all the cables together.... made removing the putting the cowl a lot less of a hassle

Same here. I think some of the clips are broken. But hey it doesn't fall off so it's ok.

I got a used M3 cowl from this forum's marketplace a while back. Much less expensive than buying new, looks complete under the hood, and doesn't leave any gaps.

The access to the engine cover is very easy. I'd never go back. I will say though, the modifications the guy did in the video look just as good - won't seal as well but looks good.

I never touched my wires and it works perfectly fine just sitting within the plastic cup area by the DME and Brake Reservoir. Absolutely zero issues.

If you feel comfortable I just modified the OEM cowl and added the BMS cowl filters and love it.
Down side is it does not look as good as the M3 option but personally I think it looks great.
All in all if you don't like it then you can always swap to the M3 option.
