Oil cooler question

Is there anything out there that replaces the stock OC core with a bigger unit while retaining most of stock plumbing for OEM look from engine bay?

IIRC the connections on the OEM oil cooler are a special design by BMW, so simply putting in another core won't work.

I looked into that, but you have to get adapters to connect to the new core to the existing plumbing, or buy new oil lines, plus there will be some fab work to do also.

You're better off waiting until Black Friday and get a ER Sport oil cooler for less than $600. I think thats the best solution out there if you simply want to upgrade to a stock part to a more efficient solution and don't plan on hammering the car at the track regularly.

Hey thanks for your reply!
Actually I think N54Tuning had the black friday sale this past November, so I'm hoping it'll be available again this year.

Hey PM them and see if they can give that price to you now, won't hurt to try.

Good luck

I got my ER sport oil cooler at a Black Friday price - you might just contact them and see what kind of deal they'll give you. It has adapters for its hoses that screw into the OEM fittings and aside from the fact that they're black nylon braided hoses, it looks "factory".

You also have the Dinan Oil Cooler "system" that replaced not only the Oil Cooler that is two times the size of the stock, it replaced also the stock oil hoses with bigger oil hoses that are braided, a replacement air duct, and ventilation air flangs help to direct the air flow and to protect from stone flings from the wheels that can damage the oil cooler fins

It only cost $1600 . If your not planning on keeping the car then seek a cheaper solution

It's possible to custom fabricate an upgraded oil cooler kit. Buy a Setrab oil cooler core & the connection lines. Turner Motorsport sells a kit (~$900), but you could probably just buy the mount directly from them. Here is the description from the webpage for the product:

Quote:
  • Retains factory oil cooler
  • Easy installation
  • No hacking or cutting of brake ducts
And here's proof the idea works:

-Bought oil coolers and lines directly from Setrab (625 series)
-Bought oil cooler housing adapter from Turner Motorsports
-Got Border Collie from bcrmn.org

(Don't worry about the extra long bolt that sticks down from the bracket- that is one of the splitter supports. )

I will have to modify the setrab core since I am icing the stett bracket that goes underneath crash bumper. With this being under crash bumper it caused fitment issue with my 1M bumper because it pushed crash bumper out 1/8" - 1/4"
