X5d, High pitch noise while accelerating?
Getting a high pitch noise when accelerating in gear, happens on part load, goes away when pedal fully depressed.
I can’t imagine it being any of the pulleys, as I can’t replicate it while parked. It will only happen under load while I’m in gear 1,2,3. 2009 X5d, 126,000 miles. Here is a link to a video: https://youtube.com/shorts/IdUa_Zjf9VA?feature=share |

Check to see if the manifold bolt closest to the rad has snapped off. Might be an exhaust manifold leak. Or it's a turbo on it's way out..

I'm saying it could be, usually with turbo failure you get a big bump in oil consumption as well. If this has been going on for a while, most likely not turbos, they don't last long when they start making noise.

Checked full exhaust, only a small leak on an exhaust clamp. Don’t think sound is related to this. Also no broken bolts on the exhaust side anywhere.
Need to smoke test the intake. Trying to figure out how to do this with the EGR value on the intake! Need to isolate intake and exhaust for the smoke test. |
