Can we get a post of links of where to purchase the various options discussed here?

I can't even find a Westfalia distributor in the US.

Interested in Westfalia, Bosal (if avaliable for the D), and Execuhitch.

There is a reason for no Westfalia distributor in US. BMWNA doesn't want us pulling with the 3. Not sure where that i found it but you need to buy through a UK or Europe based company to get it. There are a couple parts (unrelated) that i couldn't buy in US so I turned to Smeidmann in Denmark.

I'm sure a google with turn up a source from e90post mainstream thread or bimmerfest mainstream 3 series thread as well. I'll go look but it should be easy.

EDIT: Nick, go to very first posting of this thread for Execuhitch link. It is pricey though. If you need a receiver and want class 3 rating, its the place to go. If you want a trailer ball, Westfalia works. Pick your poison.

UPON CLOSER INSPECTION: Same first post has link to pfjones who i believe sells the Westfalia stuff or it sure looks the same. Give her a look.

link to pfjones and drilled down to E90, saloon type. I see a removable one in the right hand column made by westfalia. I'm not sure where Whitbread got his though. His doesn't look like one of those electrically hiding/showing ones though.

Hi-

Looks like I will install the Execuhitch in the next week or two. In December anyway. Curious to know if I can still drop the SCR "container" (the DEF tanks) since I think the passive one has a clogged vent.

Maybe a better way to phrase this concern is to ask, "What's going to bite me on the backside?" Hitch + wiring for bikes and the occasional light-duty towing.

Thanks!

Looks like Execuhitch / Invisihitch is no more. As far as I can tell, the hitch install won't interfere with the SCR tank handling. Hope to find out as I go in 2019 :-)

Tesla hitch is made by Westfalia ... US hitch receivers will connect

Good knowledge!

What I am seeing is that the Tesla hitch is made by Westfalia. And, 1 1/4" and 2" hitch receivers (either/or) for the States are sold by Tesla. Nice!

A couple years ago, I purchased the Execuhitch/Invisihitch and it looks like the bumper will come off this week in hopes that there are no surprises. Not too worried after re-reading forum posts. One or two posts selling the hitch also mentioned these worked w/o a problem.

It is good to know that there are a couple options now. Hidden? This Westfalia/Tesla option is great!

Thanks

Thanks for all the tips in this thread!

I tried to order a Stealth Hitch for my D a couple months ago and was told that they no longer make them due to interference with the DEF tank. Odd that they sold quite a few before that became an issue...

Decided to order the Uhaul hitch ($260 in 2023) and to my surprise instead of a 6-8 week lead time as advertised it showed up in less than 5 days to my door... with a massively bent hanger. Called them up and they are shipping me a new one, again with a quoted 6-8 week lead time. Going to try and flatten it out with a buddy's hydraulic press tomorrow and see what happens. I got it mostly installed yesterday but these two holes obviously would not line up, I had gotten my hopes up that maybe it would still fit.

Stealth works for me. Too bad it was discontinued. I did need to trim parts here and there. Perhaps that was the issue? Simple, but not an entirely clean install. Zero issues to date. Very pleased.

Good luck with your install!

Found this. States not guaranteed to fit :-)

I asked Stealth prior to purchase. Their reply: "The center block bracket goes straight down on the diesel model for the Stealth Hitch, not back toward the vehicle.. Our hitch should clear. If not, we will issue a 100% refund."

kwseattle: Sorry to hear you got a damaged unit from Uhaul. Per early part of this thread, I got one way back in 2013 and its been great.

I would have tried to put the hitch in a bench vice and clamp right at point before the bend area. Leverage is your friend here. Hope they get you another one real fast and you don't have to mess with shipping that one back.

KWSeattle,
If you did not have to send the bent one back, I would be interested in buying the bent one. Send me a message.
