335d engine malfunction after JR tune

New member, BMW owner for over two years now and have been using this forum for many of my needs. The time has come to register and help and ask for help.

2010 335d 152k freshly deleted with JR 2.8 tune and downpipe.

Installation and dealing with tunemyeuro was a breeze. Honestly, car on jackstands, wasn't a bad job at all. However...

Buttoned the car up and went out for a test drive and 1 minute after driving around i get the "engine malfunction half power" light. No check engine light. Keep driving and now i have a check engine light due to P0299 Underboost condition. Anyone have similar issues on a freshly deleted car? North American spec.

Brand new O2
reused EGT
DPF Vacuum lines are looped/plugged.
Fuses pulled from proper locations.

Did the tune add too much boost to rupture a weak system/vac lines/red intercooler piping?

Thanks

You can't rupture something that is under vacuum.. i.e. vac lines

Also, from my experience check your intercooler hoses. Mine popped off to the turbo. Hopefully, you got an easy fix too. Got to love the tune though!!!!

Tunes exposed a lot of weaknesses. Especially those shitty clip connector boost connections

Had this code come up on a customer car recently due to failure of the vacuum solenoid that operates the compressor bypass valve. No other fault would set besides underboost and car was good as new once that solenoid/pressure converter was replaced.

Checked all intercooler connections, seem as tight as they'll ever be. Red hose is covered in oil down to the intercooler. Some oil secretion coming from the small turbo housing. I have no idea, just keep digging.

Does it feel underpowered at all ? Also did the fault set on the first drive after the tune? Underboost codes on the m57 are frequently caused by issues with any of the various pressure converters in the passenger side of the car. Crusty vacuum lines can also leak and cause the pressure converters to not operate properly.

The car runs fine for 2 minutes, then goes into limp mode. I can restart the car and drive it normal for 2 minutes, until limp mode again. Going to do my intercooler piping along with vacuum line inspection.

Also yes, light came on after tune, on first drive.

Did you pull codes? If you haven't vac lines, both PCs and the EV valve that controls the compressor bypass are good bets.

Have your vacuum lines been replaced? If not, there is a good chance that one or more are leaking.

His initial post says 152,000 miles so I completely agree he should do the vac lines first and likely the VCG if it hasn't already been done.

392Hemi = You say the car runs fine when you first start it for two minutes then goes into 1/2 power. You also say the car runs fine for two more minutes when you shut it off and restart it. Is the restart you are talking about with everything hot or you letting the car cool off before restarting it?

Regardless, it starts and drives as normal for X amount of time then half power.

Negative, i have vac lines, turbo outlet hose and upper elbow on order, bad news is ATM won't have the hoses in stock for another week or so.

Intake is removed, intercooler is removed. Intercooler is covered in fresh oil internally. Intake is dripping from the swirl flaps. Valve cover gasket looks great all the way around except for around the vacuum pump. Which after further research, is a common issue.

Besides the vacuum pump, vac lines and turbo-intake piping being faulty/replaced, what would cause the oil mess?

So my plan is as follows.

Vacuum pump seal/gasket, vacuum lines, swirl flaps and related gaskets/seals.
Until ATM has the turbo outlet or intercooler kit in stock that is as far as i can go to keep me busy.
My inspection sticker is up January 31st, 2023. I have until then to dial this thing in deleted, re-tune to stock, get it inspected and then delete again for the year.

This is one of my three vehicles, so its not a do or die scenario. However i would like to keep the information coming to anyone else who runs into this issue.

Massachusetts can kiss my ass, also fk MauraHealy
